OHSS

I’ve just started my first IVF cycle.

I have PCOS and been started on Folisurge 187.5 units and had it for 4 days and went for a scan today - have around 10-11 follicles each ovary with the background polycystic ovaries.

They have reduced the dose to 150 and told to come back in 2 days.

I can’t help but worry about the risk of OHSS and wondered if anyone had any advise as to how I can avoid (by meds or homely remedies) it and also if it is quite common?

I will be having a frozen transfer and I’m 33 (BMI - 20.5)

Thank you all in advance xxx

They have reduced the dosage to hopefully slow down the growth of the follicles and monitoring closely in case too many follicles develop Good luck with next scan Janet

Hi, are they monitoring your estrogen levels too? I think keeping an eye on follicles and estrogen levels is best way to know if you are being over-stimulated. It looks like they are keeping a close eye on you though, which is the main thing! They can keep reducing your dose to make it safer as they see how things progress.

There is also a medication called cabergoline, which you can start straight after egg collection to reduce your risk of OHSS. Maybe ask about this at your next scan? There isn't much else you can do, it's all in the clinics hands in terms of not over stimulating you. I had OHSS on one of my cycles, but not on the other 2 cycles, so it can definitely be avoided if the clinic is paying attention!

Wishing you the best of luck with your cycle 🤞🏻xx

Oh that’s good to know will definitely ask about Cabergoline. Is that what you did for the 2 cycles to prevent OHSS or was it just by reducing the doses and checking your estrogen levels? Good luck to you too xx

That was just from having a really low dose and reducing. I had a lot of scans especially on my first cycle, I feel that doctor was a lot more careful! I took cabergoline on a round that I got OHSS unfortunately, but I had over 50 eggs retrieved 🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

50? Oh wow that’s a huge number. Well I’m glad you got it sorted for the next 2 rounds and good luck for the future and thank you xx

I have PCOS and was on Menopur, they reduced the medication to the minimum and I still developed OHSS after my fresh transfer, once pregnant. I had 16 mature eggs retrieved. Make sure you eat a lot of protein. If you feel bad before a fresh transfer, wait for a FET as a pregnancy can make the symptoms worse. Best of luck! x

My clinic refuse to do fresh transfer if you have PCOS. So hopefully it should be ok 🤞Thank you and good luck to you xxx

Why? Because of the risk of OHSS, I guess it depends on many things, blood tests, how stimulated the ovaries are. Wishing you all the very best! Xx

They said if anyone has pcos then they do fresh transfer. I’m assuming due to the OHSS risk. I can ask them tomorrow though xx

I asked the clinic and they said with pcos they only do frozen transfer due to OHSS risk and also in general they are going away from fresh transfer even if no risk as supposedly 20% increase in success rates with fet compared to fresh xx

I have PCOS also and I developed OHSS on my 2nd cycle. Got 15 eggs. Drink lots of fluids, milk and eat protein. My clinic didn't even considered a fresh transfer, my blastocysts went straight to the freezer.

Yeah trying to get atleast 2litres of fluid so hopefully it should be ok 🤞

What was done different from the 1st to the 2nd cycle, do you know?

Good luck to you xxx
