Just looking for some advice really. I had my first fresh transfer on 30th April. My official test date was supposed to be today. However I started bleeding heavily on day 7 post transfer and this was the exact date that my natural cycle was supposed to start. I couldn’t believe the natural cycle pushed through. I had a full on bleed. I did a test on day 8 and it was positive. I informed my clinic and they advised that I should bring my OTD forward to day 10 which was yesterday. As I was still testing positive yesterday I went in for a blood test which showed low HCG. So more than likely a chemical pregnancy. But what I’m really baffled about is why my period in my natural cycle started bang on the day that it was due. I didn’t expect my natural cycle to regulate that quick and interfere with the 2ww. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal for a period to come within the two week wait? I’m really struggling to get my head around this. Thank you in advance.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing a chemical pregnancy.
Its not unusual to bleed when your period would have come despite the drugs. I have to admit I am not a medical professional but I was told that by my consultant and have seen it happen on here a number of times, even in pregnant women, sometimes it isn't necessarily bad news either. Our bodies are weird! Really hope you are ok and you get your miracle soon x
Hi lovely,I unfortunately too had a chemical pregnancy in the last week and started bleeding at about 10dpt whilst on progesterone pessaries
I’ve found some information that has said the bleeding whilst on medication may be due to low progesterone which meant your body is unable to maintain the pregnancy
I have my follow up appointment tomorrow and am going to ask about this as I had the exact same questions as you! So I’ll be more than happy to let you know what my consultant says but I recommend you have the same chat with your clinic too just incase
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been through the same thing it’s utterly devastating and I hope you’re doing okay ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww thank you so much Emily. I am so so sorry to hear about yours too and hope that you are okay xxx. That is so good that you have your follow up so soon. My follow-up is not until June. My consultant is super busy and is on annual leave. My blood results from Tuesday showed that I had hardly any progesterone in my body as they did a blood test to check my HCG and progesterone 🥹. I was on three pessaries a day. But I had a really heavy bleed from day 7 onwards. Which progesterone were you on? Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me especially as you’re going through the exact same thing I really appreciate it and wish you all the very best for your review appointment. ❤️❤️ Also yes please if you are able to let me know what your consultant says hopefully we can compare notes eventually when I get to see my consultant Xxx
Hi again Emily, I have just read your posts and completely understand how you feel, we defo had a similar journey. I saw yours was a 5AA, mine was a 5AB. Take care my lovely and all the best again xxxx
Hi Tracey,As awful as it is for both of us at least we’ve got each other for the ride it’s nice to know there’s someone to chat too who has been through the same thing!!
Gosh that is ages away you may be able to ask to speak to a different doctor if your clinic offer that at all? My appointment isn’t with one that I’ve met before but we only saw our names consultant once anyway so it didn’t really matter to us!
Wow I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case then as I know progesterone is so important in early pregnancy!! Brilliant news that you got your bloods checked, my clinic don’t offer them as routine, but I’ll definitely be getting them for our next transfer even if we have to pay for them, I absolutely refuse to go through all of this again if it’s potentially preventable with a simple blood test!!
I will definitely let you know how it goes tomorrow and 🤞 they’ll be nice and proactive. Will you be having another cycle any time soon? It’s awful when you lose such a good embryo isn’t it 😢 especially when the statistics of success are so high for most!
Hey, yes I know it’s a pity that my review is so far away. For continuity purposes I’ve decided to continue to see my main consultant as I’ve had 3 gynaecological operations under her so she knows and understand my history. Apparently she only works every other Wednesday…. From what I’ve been reading I’m definitely going to be asking about Lubrion, I don’t know enough about it yet but so far that has been the common theme coming up with regards to lack of progesterone. Especially as it would appear that the pessaries don’t agree with my body. I’m hoping to have a frozen transfer perhaps July / August if possible. Then the next dilemma will be whether to do the FET natural or medicated…..Wishing you all the very very best with your review appointment tomorrow and I hope they give you a very positive plan moving forward. And yes please let me know what they reckon. Take care and happy Wedding planning xxx
Hi I’m so sorry you’ve had a chemical pregnancy. I’ve had bleeding around the date my period would be due quite a few times and including my chemical pregnancy. For some people the drugs delay the bleed but for others they don’t. The positive I took away from my chemical (once I grieved and got my head around it) was that implantation had at least occurred so timing and body conditions etc were okay and it just wasn’t the right embryo to keep developing that time (and nothing at all I or anyone else could have prevented) Sending you a massive hug xx
Hey, thank you so much for your response. I have literally just read through all your posts and learnt so much. The SCH sounds scary but thank God and congratulations for your little boy I was so so happy to see that 🥰🥰🥰. All the best with your new fresh cycle that you’re about to start. Thank you again xxx
Aww thanks lovely ☺️ it’s definitely a learning curve this journey isn’t it! I hope you are okay and remember to spoil yourself for a few days you have been through so much xx
Hi Tracy. My body doesn't absorb progesterone pessaries or tablets well. I I've always needed injections (Lubion).I'd definitely think that might have something to do with it. Would be worth chatting it through with your clinic and getting alternative progesterone medication in my opionion X
Thank you, I will definitely be looking into this as I was having 3 pessaries a day so it really must be that I need something different. Thank you for responding xx
After 3 chemicals I can tell you (from my experience, not an expect opinion 😁) that this is more likely happened due to low progesterone. If your body doesn't have enough progesterone you will start bleeding, just like in real cycles if you are not getting pregnant your period will start. I adjusted my progesterone medications on my 3rd cycle and I had no bleeding at all until I stopped completely all medications but unfortunately I couldn't prevent chemical pregnancy recurring. Check your progesterone levels on transfer day, this will be my advice.
Hiya, this is really good advice because I did keep thinking and wondering why my progesterone levels had never been checked. But I just thought that three a day would be more than enough and trust the process. Thank you for your response xx
Hi Tracy, so sorry to hear this. I posted about something similar a few months ago. I also bled really heavily 7dp5dt and it coincided with the day of my expected period, so utter failure. However in my case I tested negative and then rang the clinic who concluded this happened due to low progesterone, which was frustrating because that was preventable. They upped my progesterone but it was too late. I demanded progesterone testing and lots of progesterone for my next cycle! It’s infuriating that they know the cause and yet don’t try to prevent this.
Sadly this can happen and I’m sorry it was the case with you xx
Hi Nenad, so sorry to hear about your last cycle too. I just can’t believe how much progesterone seems to have played a part here. Were you using the pessaries? I wish you all the very best with your next cycle xx
Yes I was using Lutigest, which didn’t agree with me at all. Therefore my consultant said she’d put me on cyclogest and the Lubion injections for my next cycle. It’s a trial and error sadly but more should be done to prevent low progesterone levels in the early stages. Wishing you all the best too xx
