Kinda low eggs, smoking partner & low fertilisation with icsi

Hi does anybody know why doctors want you to take Norethisterone before your stimulation? I’m worried this would suppress the number of follicles?

I am doing second ivf cycle starting stimulation in 2 weeks, last cycle didn’t go well or how I expected at all, I had low fertilisation with icsi only 2 out of 6 and I’m worried about so many things, egg quality, sperm quality, the add ons like pimsi and calcium ionophore, does anybody have experience with either of these. Also do people agree that high stimulation affects egg quality ? I’ve just turned 35.

Hi Jasmine_bella. It is to down regulate you, then you will tell them when you have a bleed them start stims. All so they can regulate you, so try not to worry. Good luck! Diane

If you’re having low fertilisation with ICSI that does suggest a potential sperm problem. Before going for expensive add ons like PIMSI, would your partner consider quitting smoking for a while? It’s so bad for sperm and could be causing issues like DNA fragmentation. It would take 3 months to see any difference but could really help. Cutting out alcohol and caffeine are also both helpful for sperm and egg quality. We used IMSI and it made a big difference for us, but that was after my husband also made huge lifestyle changes.

Honey, 2 out of 6 is 33% fertilisation rate! That's actually quite good! First IVF cycle of mine gave me 19 eggs and just a few fertilised. I don't remember exactly how many, but from the 19 eggs only two were good to transfer... It feels like a bad result for you because you didn't get as many eggs as expected, but the fertilisation rate was really decent! Also first round is always (at least it's quite common) a round of trial and error, finding out how your body reacts to the meds (it's not as if you have this level of let's say AMH you get this result from theese meds), and next round they have the experiences from the first to do necessary adjustments for you to get a better result 🥰 So heads up ❤❤❤

I can relate to the low fertilization with icsi, my husband's sperm is very bad!We would get around 12 mature eggs usually and only 3 or 4 would fertilize and can only do 3rd day transfers!

Hello,I believe norethisterone is so they can control the timing of your cycle, that way they can choose when they want you to start stimming. Some people they put on the pill but I have always had norethisterone. 2 out of 6 is actually ok, remember the aim is to get 1 good embryo. In terms of high stimulation affecting egg quality, I think it varies from person to person. I am preparing for my 3rd egg collection and have learnt it is all a bit trial and error, they will try something and see how you respond, if it's not well they will tweak it or change it completely for the next attempt. Wishing you the best for your cycle. xx
