My clinic have advise me to stop taking progesterone at 8 weeks but to continue with my blood thinners (due to OHSS) til I am 12 weeks. I am feeling really anxious to stop and wanted to know if anyone else stopped their progesterone so early?

I am still taking them but I am only about 5 and a half weeks. I for one can't wait to stop taking them.

I know tell me about them they are truly awful. I remember the first time I had to take them and I wasn’t warned how messy they were and all the side effects you get.

Mine said 10 weeks and I was so scared so I just used them until they were all finished at 11 weeks. I went from 4 per day to 2 per day until they ran out. I can totally understand why you’re reluctant but my Dr did say after the placenta takes over ,you don’t need them anymore.

Thank you for your reply. This community really helps a lot. I had spoken to my clinic today and they cleared up a lot of things and explained why I should come off the progesterone.

I’ve heard lots of clinics stop around 8/9 weeks so that makes sense! I think my clinic just keep you on it longer but not sure why! X

I must admit I am happy to be coming off them especially that I am still recovering from OHSS. So hopefully some of the side effects will ease off. Good luck on your journey 🤞

I'm the same, they want me to stop lubion at 8 weeks but I think Ustrogestan pessaries until 12 weeks. My clinic told me to trust them and stop reading the internet, but the internet actually supports coming off them at 8 weeks, but yes, I'll be nervous next week too. X

It is so true, really the internet can make things worse but I do think this community really helps. As we are all going through similar journeys.

My clinic said to stop at 7 weeks. I insisted I wanted to be on them for 12 weeks due to my naturally low progesterone but they weren’t super happy about it! Xx

It looks like I am stopping my progesterone. They explained why they came to the decision and I guess I have to try and trust the experts. Now I have an explanation I feel so much better xx

Hi there, I’ve noticed a discrepancy between clinics. The timescales have ranged from when a BFP is confirmed (fresh transfers) to 12 weeks. I think it should be okay to stop at 8 weeks but if you are nervous why not tell them that you want to be on it for longer. Most clinics do say 12 weeks.

All the best

Thank you, that is so true. That does seem to be the case that everyone stops at different times. They have explained everything to me this morning and I feel so much better to listen to their advice.

Wow two weeks - I suppose each clinic is different. With all the side effects they give you it can only be good thing to come off them as soon as you can x

After my fresh cycle I had a course of Hcg injections rather than progesterone supplementation. You take them until 6 days after your transfer and then you have nothing- the Hcg of your pregnancy takes over and ensures your ovaries continue to make progesterone. I was terrified because I always have very low progesterone naturally and I don't absorb the supplements very well (I always end up with early spotting) but it worked. Previously I had to take so many supplements that it has been amazing that nothing was needed at all. This is of course very different if you have a FET. Xxx

Oh wow - I had no idea that the injections were for such a short period of time! I’m glad to hear it worked though 🙂 Thank you for sharing your experience - we spoke to the clinic today who explained the difference in progesterone between fresh and frozen transfer xx
