Delayed ovulation after failed transfer?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning my next transfer after my failed one but I haven’t ovulated yet (I think!) have been testing since day 14 and today is day 24 and all I have is a flashing smiley since day 22. My cycles are usually 28 days long so I’m wondering whether the hormones from the fresh cycle can do this? Anyone experienced this before?

Sorry to hear of your failed transfer. Hope you are doing ok. I found my cycles were abit different after a transfer. Some would be longer and some would be shorter. They say it can take around 3 months for them to become “your” regular again. Hope this helps xxx

Thanks so much for your reply. As much as I’ve heard that transfers don’t work from the first time, part of me was hoping it would! I feel like the hormones have messed up my cycle, so it’s helpful to know this can happen. Thank you xx

Hi lovely

You might have started testing too late to catch your peak. Normally for a 28 day cycle you’re meant to start testing on day 7.

That said, a fresh cycle definitely messes with your hormones so it’s very possible that your cycle is a bit off this month and it might take a month or two to settle. xx

Soccer has said exactly what I was going to say here 👍I'm usually on a 27-28 day cycle and start testing on the digital kits on day 7 or 8, typically star getting flashing smiley around day 9 or 10. But maybe you usually ovulate a lot later? Xx

Thanks AuroraXen. I typically ovulate a bit later (day 14-16) but it’s also possible that this may be a shorter cycle and I missed my peak. The flashy smiley is what’s confusing me though from day 22 and I’m on day 24 and it’s still happening. So it’ll either be a short cycle or an incredibly long one, will see! Xx

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering whether I did miss my peak too and if this will be a shorter cycle (I normally ovulate between days 14-16). What’s confusing me is the flashy smiley from day 22 on the clearblue advanced kit which usually signals the start of the fertile window. Safe to say that the hormones have been messing with my cycle! Xx

Ah I see, so have you been testing since day 7/8 but only saw the flashing smiley at day 22? xx

No I’ve been testing since day 14 because I had a terrible bleed after my failed transfer that lasted 13 days, so I didn’t test prior to this. It looks like I missed the peak this time and should’ve tested prior, which is fine as long as my period arrives on time and I can plan my FET! Thanks so much for your help xx

Yeah, it can be so confusing! My guess is that the digital reader is probably picking up on the slight estrogen bump that happens around day 21/22 (this image is from the clearblue box). The flashing smiley won’t go away on its own (it just keeps on going until it detects the LH surge), so you may want to stop testing for the rest of this cycle.

If you normally ovulate around day 14, you’ll want to start testing at least 4-5 days before that in order to get an accurate reading xx

This is incredibly helpful, I had no idea there was a slight increase around 21-22 days, thank you so much! Makes perfect sense and is in line with my usual cycles.

Interestingly I had ewcm last night (cd26) so I thought I’d do another ovulation test and it was a static smiley! My hormones are out of whack and my body’s clearly confused about what it’s meant to be doing!

Aha, very interesting! Nothing like a s*** ton of meds to mess up your cycle! At least know you know where you are and can start planning for your next FET. xx

The meds really messed things up for me! But as you say at least now I can plan ahead. Thanks for your advice xx
