Embroy Transfer Advice

Im looking for some advise please Im nearly 44 yearls old.

So far I have had 3 unsuccessful IUI's

2 failed IVF cycles.

lost pregnancy of twins last year.

I have gone through another cycle and planning a Fresh transfer and Im fortunate that I have more than one high quality embroy to transfer.

My consultant said ideally he would want to put two back in but because of my loss he may transfer just the one.

I have a daughter who was conceived naturally 6 years ago and Im trying desperately for a sibling.

Im just confused as I really don't know if I should transfer one or two Embroys.

Age is not on my side but I want a healthy successful outcome.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have always found this forum to to be honest and transparent.

Thank you

I’m really sorry to hear of your loss.

As much as double embryo transfers are tempting, and I’ve done double FET myself too a good while ago, I think my stance has changed - two embryos means two separate chances. It’s only a 2 month wait for the next transfer of unsuccessful (I know that “only” 2 months doesn’t help! Time goes so slowly during treatment!). But I now think, imagine if the timing is miscalculated slightly for a transfer, or something isn’t optimal even though all seems well. You could waste two when as single transfers one cycle might be more optimal than the other.

Something to think about xx

You mention you have a top quality embryo.. do you have others too? I am sure I read somewhere that a lower grade embryo can reduce the chances of a top grade embryo working if transferred together - so one at a time may be a better option. Heaps of luck xx

Sorry to jump in, but I didn't know that and I've done just that. I put one of mine in and a donor one. The doctor never mentioned it reducing the chances, but that doesn't mean anything. Hitting up Google now.

Just to jump on this too - I read a similar thing and when I asked the embryologist he said there’s absolutely no evidence to say that a lesser quality embryo will affect a higher quality embryo implanting… try not to worry xx

I had 2 donor blastocysts and 2 compacted embryos of mine and I split them and have 2 left, so went into a panic there. Just googled and I can find 2 studies. 1 by El-danasouri with the outcome that it does impact implantation and another that says it doesn't. 🤷‍♀️

I would try not to worry. I the evidence is very limited and I think mainly anecdotal. It sort of made sense when I read it but also then I felt really stupid when my embryologist said it didn’t….

This is a tough one!I know a friend who put back two embryos and got pregnant with twins just like you did then lost both.

so next transfer they only transfered one and it worked and she gave birth, then again transfered a single embryo and it worked and she gave birth...

I had a frozen transfer and the first embryo didn’t look very good after the thaw, so we thawed another which was fine. By the time we arrived at the clinic for transfer the first embryo was looking better so we ended up putting 2 back. I lost one at 8 weeks but the other is now my daughter. So I think it comes down to doing whatever you are most comfortable with xx
