I've been off normal coffee for the last year. My ivf cycles have progressively gotten worse (5 in the last 12 months) I've now been told I've bad egg quality as my last round very high stims only 3 eggs 2 mature and none fertilised. This had never happened in my previous cycles of lower stims. I'm trying to work on my egg quality before my next round but just wondering should I go off decaf coffee/tea/hot chocolate too?

Decaf coffee and egg quality
Sorry you are having such a nightmare. I personally don't think you could physically drink enough decaf coffee/tea/hot chocolate to have an impact on egg quality - although I am not a doctor or a nutritionalist. I was told that there was nothing you could eat or drink that would have a considerable impact on quality, and the reality was supplements can enhance but they can't 'fix' if you see what I mean. The only reason you might want to stop is if you are going to regret not doing so.. that is why I gave up some things as I could then say I tried everything, I just didn't want to get to the end and think 'I wish I hadn't done this or had done that' so I think that's probably more regrets/no regrets rather than a real influence. Heaps of luck xx
Thank you for your lovely response. I agree with you totally in not wanting to have regrets. My quality has diminished so quickly so I'm clinging onto anything to give me hope for success going forward. After my 2nd cycle I went on DHEA as I've low testosterone but weirdly my cycles have gotten worse. I've low amh and now being classed as a low responder too. Hopefully low stims will help🙏
Hi lovelyI’m very sorry to hear this. You’ve really been through the wringer this past year. 💔
I agree with Daisy that your coffee and tea consumption is very unlikely to be impacting your egg quality, especially if you’re already drinking decaf. I would be a bit more wary of hot chocolate though, as sugar is known to be detrimental to egg quality. If you’re having the occasional one then I wouldn’t worry, but I wouldn’t drink it very frequently. Personally, when I treat myself to one I try to get one made with dark chocolate as it’s lower in sugar.
Are you taking any supplements? xx
Thank you girls for your replies. My gut is telling me the very high stims fried my eggs or maybe I'm just clinging onto this hope. I am flying to Greece next week for a consultation and scans as I think low stims is always their approach with low amh. I have started taking uniquanol 200mg instead of 600mg coq10. In my first cycle I was taking 100mg ubiquanol and this was my best cycle but moved to 600mg coq10 as I thought it would be better. I have started taking resveratrol, NAC, inositol and serrapeptase which I haven't tried before. If you have any other recommendations I would love to hear them
Hey lovely, you’ve said it yourself - I believe the same when I did high doses and fried my eggs! Lower doses were much better for me (I have very low amh but got more eggs and blastocysts on only 150iu whereas my 450iu rounds were a disaster! Xx
Thanks Orla I was on 450 gonal f and 300 menopur. It was even 600 gonal f for the first 2days. On day 5 I only had 1 growing out of afc 6 and then day 7 all of a sudden 3 more had shot up. I was ready to cancel but doc said it only takes 1. Afterwards she said high stims wouldn't have affected the egg quality when there were so few follicles to begin. Not sure what sense that makes but she advised donor. I just hope the high stims hasn't destroyed my chances going forward
