Spotting instead of AF, is it DHEA or Fibroids?

Hi all, confused at what my body is doing now. I was diagnosed with uterus fibroids two weeks ago, in my forties. They never said how many but biggest is 1cm, the pain has been getting worst over months especially in my lower back. We have been trying naturally for years (can’t go down the ivf route) and in desperation on top of all the countless supplements I started 25mg micronised DHEA 6weeks ago. Wanted low dose to see how I coped but no side effects but incredible hair, skin and nails…feel 25 again. BUT three days ago my AF was due and have usually sore breasts and tiredness but only pink and brown spotting yesterday. Terrified to take a test as I just can’t cope with anymore Negatives. Could this be the DHEA throwing my periods off? Usually 28 days, no unusually heavy bleeding despite fibroids and ovulate around 12 to 14 day. AMH is 1.45 but FSH is high but in line with my age. Thanks for your comments.

Hey I had something very similar happen last week and I panicked. My period was late I usually have 24-26 day cycles and I was spotting a lot and then period came day 33. It was so weird. I don’t really know why it happened but can understand your stress! Take a pregnancy test to see, that helped me to know one way or another and I relaxed after that as I kept thinking am I pregnant is this my miracle ivf in April. I also take DHEA and not had any problems before so don’t think it was that. Xx

Thank you so much for your reply, it really did take me so much courage to start DHEA so thank you for your positive feed back, you never want to take any steps out of line in case in backfires. I am having lots of cramps and still brown spotting so I think it’s time to get it together once again and test. I am on awaiting list (probably forever) to see specialist about the fibroids and wondered if I did get pregnant this might cause pain and bleeding. I have no mum, sisters or girlfriends near to ask so battling away alone. I think my doctor felt sorry for me so agreed a scan as I had a miscarriage last year and my hospital experience was horrific. Life can be so brutal and my poor body is such a trooper! Hope all goes really well for you in April. 🤗🌸

Hi,Like you my hair and skin is so much better on DHEA and I'm like clockwork with a 28 day cycle, but I didn't have any missed periods and I took 75mg at one point, so it's worth taking the test.

1cm fibroid is quite small, but any intrusion in the uterus can cause implantation failure or miscarriage. I had a hysteroscopy 8 years ago to try and laser off a fibroid on the edge of my uterus, but they couldn't get it and decided it was not impacting the uterus so should be OK.

I think DHEA produces more estrogen which makes fibroids grow. I took that risk. I have 4 fibroids and they have grown, but I don't know if that was due to DHEA or not. None of them are impacting the uterus though.

By the way, I went to Greece last year to have a subseptate uterus removed. It sped up the process and enabled me to get on with my journey. It's the same process as removing a fibroid in the uterus. Hysteroscopy with a laser. Flew out Sunday evening had the op on Monday and flew back Tuesday.

Good luck
