Does anyone know how long after removal of a fibroid (by keyhole) it will be ok to start trying to conceive again? I will be having a 7cm fibroid removed. Also anyone have experience of a large fibroid causing fertility issues?

I have a long history of fibroid problems and have had two open myomectomy surgeries to remove them - I had 42 fibroids removed on 5th Feb this year and was cleared to start my FET in June with my down reg month - so with one removed and only keyhole you should be fine in three months x

off topic but i had 7 large fibroids which i shrunk to now not being significant enough to report on my scans. Thru caffeine free, sugar free, dairy free and gluten free and a couple of naturopathy drinks.

I had surgery in the past and surgeon was unable to remove mine due to location. So i went away from medical and fixed them myself thru hard slog and dedication. I now have a near 2 year old thru fet and scans are good and ready to try another fet. Good luck with your journey

I also have fibroids and had a large fibroid removed in 2019. I had to do this before I could proceed with IVF. I had an open myomectomy and was cleared to start within 3 months rather than the usual 6 months for open surgery. The doctor said it was because the uterine cavity was not breached during the surgery.

Your doctors will tell you when you can try trying to conceive so just follow their advice. All the best x

I had a keyhole myomectomy in March 2021 to remove two fibroids (one 3cm and one 6cm that had worked it’s way from the lining into my uterus). I did do embryo creation prior to this back in November 2020 and my consultant who did the myomectomy told me I’d have to wait a year before ttc again…. I was however cleared after 5 months upon having a Hysteroscopy and all looking good. We took an extra step with our private round and did an Era, Alice, Emma and NK cells test which was a fully medicated cycle to check progesterone timings etc. for transfer so it took us longer to get to an FET but we felt the benefits were worth it for us. We did the frozen embryo transfer back in February and had our first bfp… due in a few weeks! We did an nhs round prior to my op where we had two transfers and lost three embryos - I honestly believe that the fibroids were a massive fertility issue for me and having them removed has made the world of difference…. As it has to other people I’ve met along the way. Wishing you all the very best on your journey x

Hi Hannah. I am currently 44 yrs old with a 10cm (grapefruit sized) fibroid and am 22wks pregnant with my second child. The pregnancy is going well - fingers crossed it continues that way. I am on a scan pathway and my consultant/obstetrician is keeping a close eye on baby's development and any growth of the fibroid. Next scan at 32 weeks.

Previously the fibroid was the size of a maltesar with my first pregnancy - I had a little girl who is now just over a year old. During that pregnancy it grew to 10cm. My daughter grew around the fibroid and was breach so had a C-section at 39 weeks. She weighed a healthy 8lbs.

So basically I conceived woth my current pregnancy when my daughter was around 8 months old, and the fibroid hadn't had a chance to shrink. It can be uncomfortable at times and even a little niggly/painful by the end of the day. It is high up in my uterus, so already finding bending down and rolling over in bed difficult!

Just wanted to share my little bit of experience with pregnancy and fibroids. Hope it helps.

Speak to your consultant/clinic/hospital about when to start trying after removal of fibroids.

Wishing you lots and lots of baby dust 💖

Hi Hannah, I had 10 fobroïds removed by keyhole + open myomectomy last year. About 10cm. My surgeon has suggested to wait 8 months before to start a pregnancy + C section for delivery.

Thanks all, seems like the time advised is very variable. I suppose I need to ask more about what my surgery will involve. I know it will be keyhole so hoping that will reduce the time. Also I know the fibroid is on a stalk so I’m hoping there won’t be too much damage to the uterus.
