When you have a NHS funding for IVF treatment do you pay for your own medications or is it free?

Thanks x

Hi, if you're working you have to pay for your own meds but free if you're on any benefits. I had to pay for mine but worked out cheap because I purchased a Prescription Pre-payment Certificate (PPC) from the NHS website for 3 months each time I had IVF. Incase you're not familiar with it, you go on the NHS website and purchase the PPC (for 3 months its £30.25 a one off fee), they will email you the certificate number which is what you give to the pharmacy each time you collect your meds (its unlimited number of prescriptions and meds for the period you paid for). Hope it all makes sense otherwise you can PM me. Hope your IVF journey is successful x

In my case it was completely free, only one round of free IVF/icsi I was allowed to have.

My one round of IVF on the NHS in 2020 all my medication for the round was included for no charge to me. I was on high stims so when I went private they next round it cost me £2k 😬. I was working and as far as I am aware all meds were included for everyone on the NHS round regardless. If you were written a prescription for something that wasn’t part of the IVF round drugs (FSH, progesterone etc) like perhaps a thyroid med like thyroxine then you would need to pay the the regular NHS prescription charge I believe. X

I had to pay the regular NHS prescription charge, it came to just over £45 x

My sister has just had her first NHS round and she got everything completely free. Her and her partner both work full time. She did have to give back any remaining meds (even though first round didn’t work), where as I have been able to keep any remaining meds for next round because I had to go private. X

Prescription charges apply depending on circumstances. I've always had to pay for prescriptions but like someone above mentioned, it works out cheaper if you get the pre payment certificate. I always get the 3 month one per ivf cycle.

When I did my first NHS round, I wasn't expecting to pay for medications until I went the pharmacy.

I’m guessing it must depend on your individual circumstances or it’s maybe just the usual postcode lottery. I’ve just finished my third and final funded cycle on the NHS and I didn’t pay for anything as part of the treatment other than DHEA and the other supplements I chose to take.

Maybe it sounds like they differ between CCGs from the replies on here. I’m in Northern Lincolnshire and Google CCG and all my drugs were free on my NHS round, regardless of the fact I’m working x

All my standard meds are completely free, but anything outside of what they would suggest as standard I have had to pay for like lubion - I had to pay this out of pocket because it’s not part of the nhs package.
