*sensitive - how likely am I to see a heartbeat at 6+5 weeks?

Hello everyone, I am (I hope) 6 weeks pregnant today, but am incredibly anxious about missed miscarriage/blighted ovum etc. and desperate to find it if there is actually a growing baby in there. Because of Christmas I can't go for the usual 7 week scan, and have to choose between either 6+5 or nearly 8 weeks. I really don't want to wait 2 more weeks, but at the same time I don't want to go at 6+5, not see a heartbeat because it's too early, then have to spend the rest of Christmas in limbo not knowing for sure if there's a baby or not.

Any experiences you could share of when you were able to hear a heartbeat would be so helpful, thank you.

I didn't manage to get as far as the official first scan on my two fresh transfers as they ended before, so for my FET I wanted to know there was something vaguely in the right place and the right size. I had a private scan at 5weeks and 2 days and we saw the heartbeat - but the sonographer was very clear before that it was super early and if we didn't see anything, especially heartbeat, that it was still fine and we could come back in a couple of weeks when it was more likely to be seen. I think even if there's a heartbeat they're so tiny even just trying to see the image is very difficult.

Hello, I had my viability scan today at 6w4d and could see the heartbeat. The measurements were on track as well but a little tricky to measure when the little bean is still so tiny. Personally I would rather know what's happening before Christmas otherwise I would have just worried. Best of luck to you for your first scan.

Congratulations hun that's brilliant news! I think I agree I've decided to go ahead before Christmas and just booked one at 6+6, fingers crossed.

I had my scan at 6w5d and my little emby had a heart beat. I went again two weeks later measuring 9weeks and saw a baby forming and the heart flickering away. So both times are just as special, good luck xx

Thank you, it's really good to hear, it's sounding like for most people the heartbeat is there before the full 7 weeks, hopefully for me too.

Hi lovely, I understand your concern, I was so so anxious going for my scan today at 6+3. I still can’t believe what we saw but baby was measuring right on track and we saw the heartbeat - it was amazing! I think you should go so you can relax a bit over Christmas. Wishing you all the best Xx

Thank you, that's a really early one too 😊

6+5 is very early but it’s possible they’ll see something. I went at around 6 weeks or just before in my first pregnancy because I was worried about cramps. They could see the egg sac but nothing else and she reassured me it was just too early but that it is what they’d expect to see and booked me in for another scan at 7.5 weeks that turned out to be 8. Just be prepared that you might not see what you hope to but that there is a chance they’ll see something - whether they can detect a heartbeat I don’t know. Maybe then if needed you can book in for the 8 week scan as well. Good luck 🤞

I too had my scan this week at 6+5, the heartbeat was perfect 😊 the clinic told me it can be seen from 6 weeks but they prefer to do it closer to 7. I would go to the earlier appointment if I were you, it will be worth it to settle the anxiety x

Hi, I would wait until the 8 weeks scan. I had mine at 6+2 and they couldn't see a heartbeat yet so had to come back a week later. Was very stressful but there was a heartbeat showing on the second scan the clinic I went to advised against such an early scan and that's because it can be too soon. Good luck!!!😀😀😀
