Just had a scan after being on the short protocol for 7 days. They said they are not hopeful that I will get many eggs from what they can see. They think less then 5 πŸ˜” I feel sick with worry. Last time 2 years ago they collected 19. But this time they put me on short protocol to get better quality. But less than 5 isn't what they want at all they want around 12. Another scan on weds can alot change in less than 2 days? Any hopeful stories. I'm sick of hearing bad news πŸ˜” I am on the max dose too of 450 iu. I hate my body

Hey

Just wanted to give you some hope! I had 3 eggs collected, 2 fertilised and 1 made it to day 3 transfer. I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant

I know it's hard when you expect much more but it only takes 1

Best of luck ❀️

Hi lovely. I’ve been there and know how devastating it can feel to be told they can’t see much. However, I really think it’s more about quality. I only had 3 follicles going into egg collection and was so worried, but I got two apparently good quality blasts in the end (not got to a transfer yet!). Hopefully you will get a few great embryos from your eggs too! Xxxxx

I am sorry lovely its all such a difficult journey.

You will be surprised a lot can change in a few days, especially when on 450 which is what I was on, I actually posted a post a few years ago where they only saw three follicles I think it was and they were considering stopping the round and I went back 3 days later and had about 8 I think! So a lot can change.

Also for what its worth, when we did our donor round I was convinced as my donor was so young we would get loads of eggs and was gutted when we only got 6 and only 4 fertilised, but of those 4 we got 3 top quality blastos.. so maybe actually less is more, because the energy is the same but shared amongst less eggs so gives them more of a boost if you see what I mean?

Sending you hugs xx

Hi lovely, agree with Hidden - we had one cycle when they could only see 6 at the first scan.I was always told that the number they see then won't change - so I toyed with cancelling it as it seemed so many less than our last cycle (14).... but when I went back for my next scan there were 12! They said there must have been some that were so small they couldn't see them. Egg collection resulted in all 12 and 4 blastocysts from them.

Honestly though, even if you get 5, they may well be better quality - don't write off those eggies yet. It's hard when you have expectations, but if IVF has taught me anything, its not to plan - just to go with the flow, and sometimes you are pleasantly surprised.

Best of luck xxx

Hi Littlepeax. Well, yes much can change is a couple of days. It amazing how many tiny follicles can suddenly increase in size ready to receive eggs. Keeping everything crossed for Wednesday and some more decent follicles. Grow follies grow! Diane

I have a very high AMH so they were predicting masses of eggs and put me on the lowest meds on long protocol. My body 'ignored' the meds and cycle was cancelled, then lockdown so had to wait a year. Short protocol on higher meds still very little to see and by around day 10 I think I had two follicles. kept upping meds, stimmed for 17 days and got 9 eggs. Had I not been told to expect 'loads' I would have been thrilled. We had low fertilization due to a sperm issue but still got top quality blasts. Next round I had a grand total of one follicle at day 10 and it was huge - strongly advised to cancel but didn't because of previous round. Got 5 eggs as the big one slowed and a load of small ones came racing through at the end. All made it to day 5 blast and I'm having my 20 week scan from one of those this week. I did the whole why is my body so weird, what's wrong with me... but I think it can be a case of quality over quantity and just finding the protocol to get one good blast, then the right care and meds to get it to stick.

Do not worry about the number of follicles. Quality over quantity. One of my IVF cycles was almost canceled because the follicles were different sizes. We ended up getting 4 eggs and two embryos. We froze them all.

On the long protocol I only got 6 eggs. Only 4 were mature and only 2 fertilised. One made it to day 3 and didn't stick. This round I'm on the short protocol. I got 7 eggs, 6 fertilised and 2 made it to 5 day. Good quality. One transferred and one on ice. I got my BFP at the weekend.

I was so focused on getting lots of eggs but it really is about quality and finding the golden egg! X

Sorry you feel this.I had 5 eggs only on my 1st attempt. 3 were good enough to use but only 2 eggs the cell divided correctly.

There are so many things that can go wrong in trying to create a baby.

I know of 2 woman that ran out of eggs one at her 3rd attempt, the other at her 6th attempt.

There's nothing you can do about this. It's wrong to get angry or upset as you only upset yourself.

It's difficult to learn to except, you're hurting yourself. Try to be positive. Stress isn't good.

Yes it's very tough, it's not what you want. Try to see how you would help someone else who was you. Don't beat yourself up!

My IVF didn't work. I went a bit nutty at the time but it didn't help me with my relationship or in the workplace.

I feel for you.

It’s quality that matters so try not to get too upset about the numbers. 5 is the most I’ve ever got so I was delighted when I got that many. My most recent round we got 4 eggs, 2 fertilised and we’re transferred and I stuck around and I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant. People have been telling me for the last 4 years that it only takes one egg and it is really hard to hear when you are desperately wanting more but I realise now it is true. Good luck!

Hi Littlepeax,

I just wants to share our story in the hope it gives you some hope. Our first round was a total disaster, I barely responded to the medication and ended up not even making it to transfer. We changed to the short protocol and a high dose of meds - the highest they could give in fact. My response was much better but they still only expected to collect a small number of eggs. On the day, they got 6, three fertilised, two made it to blastocyst, one failed transfer and our last (and only) little frozen embryo is about to turn one in a week. I also also expecting baby two who I conceived naturally.

This time two years ago, I thought we would never have a biological child and was looking into adoption. I remember having family around for Christmas 2019 and just sitting in another room sobbing because I could here my nieces and nephews and in-laws all getting excited for Christmas Day.

I have been where you are, I know how it feels when your body just doesn’t play ball. However, sometimes less is better if the quality of the eggs is good. It is such a rollercoaster, there is no way to know what will happen next but try not to get too caught up with numbers. When we had success, I had started to think more positively about things. I genuinely think psychology plays a huge role, keep telling yourself this will work. And be kind to yourself, enjoy the occasional treat and make time for you.

If it doesn’t work, we took DHEA before our second round. It might be worth speaking to your consultant. Mine was really encouraging and gave us a link so we knew where to source it. I think it helped with our egg quality.

Best of luck, I hope you have success this time around. It really does only take oneπŸ€žπŸ™πŸ˜Š

Hi please stay positive. They told me I had 4 follicles that had grown and that’s it. On egg collection day they collected 9. I had to ask the nurse are you sure you are talking to the right person. Then the next morning they rang and said all 9 were mature eggs but unfortunately only one fertilised due to sperm binding issues. So I ended up with one… that one beat the odds and developed into a 5 day and then transferred. I am now 13 weeks pregnant. Be positive. It takes only one… a lucky one.. but you never know one of those might be your lucky one. Wishing you all the best and thinking of you.

I would always gets lots of good quality eggs but since our fertility problem is in my husband's sperm I didn't ever get to do a 5 day transfer always day 3 and would only end up with 3 or 2 embryos in each fresh cycle with nothing to freeze (I did 4 fresh cycles)

But I do have a toddler and pregnant with my second ivf baby (after 4 transfers) so don't lose faith!

Hi Littlepeax,

Everything can change in a day. On our last cycle the counted about 4 follicles and the clinic were not happy about the amount. So suddenly on I think the second scan, they said, we can see a cluster of follicles, but they are really small. So on the third scan, my consultant decided to take the risk and just wait and out me on hormones longer to see what happens. It was horrid to think that my original follicles were just going to waste and we had a nurse telling us that it might not work at all as by the time they put the embryos back in, my lining might have gone off (I am not sure this is even possible on a medicated cycle :D).

So on the egg collection day we ended up with 8 mature eggs, 7 of which fertilised, 5 of which made day 5 blastocyst and putting back 2 that were already hatching. I am now pregnant with twins and this was our try number 6.

So the moral of my long story is, that anything CAN happen.

Awww I'm so sorry, its horrible when everything goes tits up. Like others have said and I know it's a cliche but it's quality over quantity and follicle counts fluctuate monthly. Earlier this year I had 15 and in October I had 2 and decided to cancel the round as I want hopeful. Last month after being on a lower dose of menopur (375) I managed to get one 5 day B3AA embryo, I'd previously been on 450 and had two very poor quality embryos transfered with a BFN. I think it's a bit inconsiderate of your clinic to estimate how many eggs will be collected as not every follicle contains an egg and you may have more follicles at EC. Clinics are focused on stats and volumes to try and yield the best outcome when your objective is to have at least one health baby from a healthy embryo so try, as hard as it is, to keep that in mind.

I've come across women who've had 30 follicles, 20 odd eggs collected and 0 making it to day 3 so the amount of eggs and follicles are all relative. Wishing luck and baby dust and please don't be hard on yourself as your body and pick up on these things. Xx
