Hi, Yesterday I went for my 11w4d scan but measured 12w4d. Dr was satisfied with the outcome. HB was 170. The placenta was good but it was low lying. He said it must be up but now it's down. Now sometimes I will see some spots. what do you think the placenta will go up as uterus size grows? Also, he said he doesn't recommend the NIPT test but if we want to do this test then we can. My husband said we will do this test. Anybody whose scan goes good and got their NIPT test negative?

Hi there, with my son (natural pregnancy) my placenta was low lying but then later on in the pregnancy it went up by itself without having to do anything. Good luck! I am sure you will be fine xx

I was told by the doctor that most go up but he said that if not it would still be OK. I am sure you will be fine, try to pray and relax xx

I think it's not uncommon for it to be low early on and then it moves up over time, and it's only if it's low and covering the cervix later on that it can be a problem. Best to check again with the doctors/midwives to get a clear view, especially if you're worried about spotting. I had my 12 week scan this week and believe NIPT screening is offered to all pregnant women on the NHS so not sure why your doctor didn't recommend it - maybe as the risk result can sound more worrying than the reality (we were warned about that). We definitely wanted to know the chances as early as possible though, just so we were prepared. Happily it was all ok. One of the main results also tells you the general health of the placenta so that might also give you some info on the other question. But it's a very individual choice.

Have you joined the NCT forum? There's probably more answers and advice on there.

Hi Hiramunir. Hopefully as the placenta grows it will move up. Obviously they will keep a close eye on it to see if it behaves! Hope all goes as it should. At least the HIPT is just a blood test, so good luck with that if you decide to go ahead. Diane
