Do not use DHEA without physician supervision. It can cause more harm than good. If testosterone gets too high if can inhibit ovulation. Equally bloods need to be checked every 2 weeks to ensure correct dosage is applied.
Generally with low AMH you are likely to have low dhea However it is advisable to check both your DHEA-S levels and testosterone levels before you start taking it to make sure that they are at the lower end of the range. you can test this privately with a website like medichecks - if your DHEA is in the upper part of the range then you definitely should not take it likewise if your testosterone is high you should not take it either but it is likely that you will find both the dhea and testosterone are low ish. Once taking dhea you should re-test to make sure that you are not sending your results for those two tests too high. It is definitely best if your consultant knows that you are using DHEA if you are doing IVF
There is very little out there about men self medicating with dhea for fertility, so I really wouldn’t recommend it!x
Hi. I'm trying it now, for what is likely my last cycle . I've been on it for 10 weeks now. I'll let you know if it makes any difference to the number and quality of eggs I get this time! Last cycle wasn't great, quite a lot worse than the one before. I'd asked my consultant about it after our last BFN and he said that although most of these interventions and tests are completely unproven, actually he HAD had some patients my age with similar AMH having great results from DHEA. So I figured it was worth a shot. Do check your level though (I used medichecks). People sometimes have a bad experience but for me, no real issues so far (a few spots but I can live with that). My goal was to get my level to that of someone in their 20s - your level naturally declines with age, usually, especially if your AMH is low. But you don't want to go too high as that can also be tricky xx
There is extreme good high-quality evidence that it works. This is an analysis of multiple good quality clinical trials showing that it improves live birth rates: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
