Started Menopur injections today. Can I expect bad side effects? I am very active (do lots of running!) has anyone else been unable to carry on running/ exercising during stims?

Menopur side effects?
Hiya, good luck with this journey! In my experience, Menopur started burning during injection after a couple of days, but I don't think that's a common side effect. Separately, at some point (like maybe 5-7 days into your injections) your doctors will tell you to stop all forms of exercise (and sex) because of the size of your ovaries (given all the follicles), and one real danger is of them flipping. At least that's the protocol here in NYC. Btw, this is assuming you are doing IVF, right?
Thanks for the advice, yes doing IVF. I will ask my consultant about exercise but your advice sounds sensible 😊
Hey lovely,
Have you asked your doctor/consultant about your normal exercise routine?
I’ve always been told to stick to low impact during stims ie walking, swimming.
As for side effects, I normally get a bit uncomfortable and bloated near egg collection. Drink lots of water as the drugs can dehydrate you x
Hey 👋 I was on 150 menopur for 7 days then it was increased to 300 for the next 5 days. My clinic just told me to carry on and be as normal as possible!
The main side effect I had was tiredness (which I still have!) and occasionally dizziness. I was usually quite warm in bed at night too. I was able to carry on working on my allotment just fine though - Lots of walking, digging, bending over, carrying heavy things etc. I was drinking a lot of water as I felt I needed it. I would just say be careful though, listen to your body. We were told sex was ok as long as we used condoms. Good luck 🤞 xx
I did not have any side effects at all on Menopur, but I did not exercise, I just went on long fast-ish walks. Best of luck! ☺️
I was on Menopur 375 then up to 450. My biggest side effect was nausea but don’t know if that’s because my dose was high and I am on a short protocol. I am also very active but was told not to run during stims due to ovaries getting bigger so I did the cross trainer at the gym and Pilates/Yoga on the nurse’s advice. Swimming is also good. It has been rubbish not being able to run tho! I also bloated and have put on 1-2 pounds even though I’m still pretty active and eat healthy. Think that’s to be expected though.
I would probably stop running as my clinic were pretty strict on that but I found some exercise really helped with the nausea and the twinges.
Best of luck! X
I have been looking for a thread on this. I’m on Meriofert not menopur but it does the same thing right? I’m now day 8, did my long run 3 days ago and felt a bit uncomfortable, I asked my clinic and they said as long as it’s not too uncomfortable and not painful at all running is absolutely fine. I’ve read that in the US they recommend no running because of the risk of ovarian tortion but my clinic here (UK) insist it’s absolutely fine. I’ve just had my dosage increased yesterday and can feel my ovaries kind of throbbing, so just gonna try a slow 4 miler today and see how it goes. These hormones and this process are doing their best to finish me off mentally haha so I NEED my running fix!!
I had no symptoms at all but I did stop all running when I was doing my injections. Walked every day though and no issues x
I stopped running about 5 days into my injections (as was recommended by my clinic) but probably would have been fine going a few more days. My doctor was actually more stern on stopping running after egg retrieval. The recommendation was 14 days, but I did start with slow runs 10 days after. The risk with running is ovarian torsion which sounds quite scary. Your clinic will likely have exercise recommendations for you. Best of luck!
