Medication question

Can anyone tell me what would happen if your LH surge wasn’t suppressed in the short-protocol?

I have just found out that I should have taken a medication called Fyremadel alongside 150 Bemfola and I hadn’t been because of miscommunication.

Just to add, for anyone who would quite rightly deem me a complete moron that it wasn’t my fault as I had asked the clinic whether I should take anything other than Bemfola and I was told no, just the HCG injection.

My cycle ended in chemical or rather, it failed and I’m trying to understand whether I would have had a different outcome.

Hi lovely, Fyremadel is quite important in an egg collection cycle as it stops your body ovulating the eggs that have developed during your stims. But it sounds as though you made it to embryo transfer so I'm assuming they were able to collect eggs? x

Yes they did, but a lot less collected than I expected so I don’t know if it impacted on this.

I also don’t know if it impacted on their quality, or whether it would be reasonable to think that. I think there were 5 mature which fertilised.

Sadly, only one made it.

Fyremadel wouldn't have an affect on egg quality - and if your body was going to ovulate I think it would release all the eggs rather than just a few - but you never know.Either way they should have made sure you were taking it because it is important to the cycle.

The maturation of the eggs tends to rely up on the type of stims/trigger used - and how your body responds to them. It can be a bit hit and miss the first cycle while they figure out what works.

I'm sorry to hear it wasn't what you expected. I would request a full debrief of what happened and what they will do differently to make the next one more successful.

I would discuss with them about them not being clear enough - it's stressful enough going through this, without them making mistakes too. Unfortunately I found that you have to be your own advocate and double check everything.

Thanks, yeah I feel a bit put out if I’m honest.

I don’t plan on doing another cycle for a while, as I’m thinking about whether I even want to go through this again. I have a multi cycle deal.

Knowing that I may not have had a fair shot from the start (or day 6 to be exact) makes me feel like I’ve wasted my time x

Hi. Sorry to hear your story and outcome. If it is a private clinic and you have a multi-cycle deal is there anyway they could 'ignore' that cycle as the correct medication wasn't used and they made an error?

Try not to let it put you off another cycle but if you aren't happy with the clinic, I would ask if you can get any refund for the muti-cycle deal and perhaps consider moving to a different clinic. I think it's so important to feel comfortable with the clinic, even more so when you are spending so much money with them.

Wishing you all the best x

Yeah you’re totally right.

When I see them in person I will suggest that they ignore that cycle - although I spent £1k on medication. Fortunately, all of the Fyramadel is still in the box unused.

Perhaps I would have had the same outcome but it’s hard for me to know for sure seeing as I didn’t have the right advice when I asked.

Egg collection was awful so to think I went through all of that and to realise this after, is a bit of a shock really.

So sorry to hear this. I had everything written down by the nurse and I’m talking about NHS. They kept updating my sheet when it was time to reduce/add medication. Fyremadel is important as it stops the body from ovulating. I am surprised that you managed to have egg collection and transfer and that you had a positive outcome. Unfortunately we don’t know why you had a chemical, but definitely it was a lack of communication from the clinic it you haven’t been told. Do you have anything frozen for a FET?

No, nothing left. Out if the 5 only 1 made it to blastocyst. 3 on day 6 we’re still cells.

It just made me wonder whether I’d ovulated some of my eggs x

I just want to say that I had 40 follicles and 16 collected. If you had 13 collected that is a great result! Unfortunately none can tell if you ovulated or not, I hope you will get some answers from your clinic!

So sorry that this happened. How upsetting and frustrating. I would definitely be calling them saying “I assume that this cycle won’t count as one of my package because your mistakes mean I wasn’t on the correct medication.” Don’t ask them, tell them! It’s a drop in the financial ocean to a private clinic but a lot of money for an individual and why should you lose out? As someone said in a previous comment you really have to be your own advocate. I’m naturally an easy going person but I’ve come to realise with medical appointments and results I have to be more assertive (inside I feel nervous!) just to get people to listen to me!! X

I know, I mean I don’t know how it affected the cycle as technically I made it to EC.

However I’m thinking - maybe I’m wrong but I had ovulated some of my eggs away prior to EC. There were around 30 follicles on the scan but 13 eggs collected.

I know that doesn’t usually mean anything as you can have empty follicles but it seemed wrong to me. I’d had IVM in the past and every follicle contained an egg. X
