Hi ladies, I am 8dp5dt today. I have Pcos but did not develop OHSS so I had a fresh transfer. This is my first IVF on Nhs. So far so good with everything, I felt great during stims and transfer.
The first 2-3 days after transfer I had some twinges and lower back pain. Now these disappeared and 2 days ago I started to have nausea, cramping, a huge tummy, shortness of breath especially when I lie down or bend over. I breath very fast. I even took a Covid test and it’s negative. I called the ACU department today and left a message, asking them to see me tomorrow. But I’m thinking I should just go to A&E? Mainly because of the shortness of breath and bloating, the cramping is not bad to even take painkillers. I am drinking loads of water.
What do you think?

Does your clinic have any emergency number you can ring to get more advice? Although if you're breathing is affected it might be good to get yourself checked out even just for peace of mind x
I called today but the nurse didn’t have my file on hand and told me she’ll get someone to call me but I guess it was so close to the end of the day. She suggested to drink a lot and go to A&E if I feel really bad, they should call back in the morning 🤷🏻♀️
Hey Fancyitaly, my general rule of thumb is if You are feeling so unwell that you are thinking about a&e you should definitely go. Better to be safe. Worried about your shortness of breath and huge tummy. My consultant said if I had any of those symptoms I should go to a&e.
At the very least you should probably call NHS24 but if your symptoms are worsening A&E may be best.
I had late onset OHSS from 5dp5dt and put off going to A&E until I was in a really bad way then had to stay in hospital for a week so it’s definitely better to get seen sooner rather than later.
I really hope the symptoms start to ease off soon for you ❤️ x
To be honest it’s totally pointless, all they do is taking blood and urine to test and I have to wait an 1.5 hours for the results. It doesn’t sound urgent to me!
I had/have OHSS, and it didn’t really cause me much concern until I got my BFP, maybe from week 5. The pregnancy hormones exasperate the symptoms of OHSS so whilst I was incredibly swollen post egg retrieval, it wasn’t much of a concern and I went ahead with transfer.
A couple of weeks ago however, I ended up in hospital with severe pain and vomiting as a result of it, and whilst I’m in less pain today, the bloating still causes me an issue and shortness of breath - a short walk around the block is still a struggle! It takes time for it to heal.
My clinic advise to drink 4L of water and 1L of milk to help ease the symptoms. I’ve found that quite difficult since being pregnant but it did help to control some of the symptoms in the beginning.
Sending you lots of positive vibes and a speedy recovery xxx
Thank you for sharing and congratulations! I’m still waiting in A&E, totally regret to have come because I bet they are not even going to do a scan now. I’m sure they’ll say go to the ACU tomorrow. For now they just took urine and blood test.
They didn’t scan me either in A&E - hopefully they will do at the EPU tomorrow. You could push for that or hopefully your clinic will see you tomorrow if you give them a call first thing?
If they’re doing bloods, it will be to confirm OHSS. They may admit you to help control the pain if it’s severe - I was on morphine and IV paracetamol and an IV anti-sickness drip which really helped knock me out.
I know it’s quite scary, but you’re in the best place and hopefully they can help ease your discomfort. Positive thoughts 💗 xx
My heart was a bit fast but not too serious, I still struggle to breath properly when I lie down. Apart from this it was worth the 4 hours wait, I had a positive hcg! 😍
Congratulations! 🎉 I had OHSS after my EC so I know how painful that can feel: I could barely walk from the pain and extreme bloating. Anyway happy for you though !!!
That’s probably why you’re feeling it more now … it was one of my telling signs. It’s also why I’m not sleeping much as I’m full of air!!! Anyway, congratulations. Rest up at home and I hope you feel better soon 💗
Omg congratulations!!!! I’m really happy for you hun! Heart rate in pregnancy is a bit of a bummer, I had some issues too…as in not issues per se, but ended up in hospital with fast heart rate and turned out to be dehydration….as soon as I drank a lot of water it went down. Something you definitely keep an eye on. Xxx
It does sound like OHSS .. I had it after a fresh transfer. I suddenly got severe symptoms 11dp5dt on test day , after getting a BFP. Apparently HCG levels can irritate the ovaries. So hopefully if you have got it , it’s a good sign pregnancy wise. I would go to A&E yes. Good luck xx
