I'm devastated. Yesterday we had our egg collection and they only found 3. This is our second round of IVF and last time we had 5 - which was considered very low. Since then I've been on all sorts of supplements and both my AMH and FSH had improved considerably. And even in my scans last week my doctor said she could see 4-5 good follicles on each side! I just don't know how we only ended up with 3 eggs collected total when everything was looking so much better.
The doctor at the clinic yesterday said the others were too small, and there was also a cyst on my right ovary which gave them trouble. But I'm still baffled as during the scans last week my other doctor said I had 4 or so good sized follicles on the left ovary, and the doctor yesterday said they were all too small or empty..
I just feel so let down. I had my hopes up that we could get enough this time to even freeze some but now I'm not even sure if we'll get one to D5 Blasto with only 3 collected.
I'm waiting on the phone call this morning to see if they managed to be fertilised ok. Last time all 5 successfully fertalised but now I know not to get my hopes up about anything. It just seems like we'll never get there. This is our last round on the NHS, and if we're not able to get any decent eggs it seems like it would be silly to try again privately.

Update: Only 1 of the 3 matured enough and was successful in fertalisation. So we are waiting to see how it goes. They agreed to do an update Thursday morning to see if it will last till day 5, and if not we'll do the transfer then.
What do people think about day 3 vs day 5 transfer? Is it going to "disturb" the embryo to look at it at day 3? Is this a bad idea?
Hi there, my experience is similar to yours. Back in 2019 i had 5 eggs retrieved, unfortunately the outcome was unsuccessful. And in Nov 2020 i only had 3 eggs - out of which 2 fertilised and transferred on Day 3, and i'm now 35 weeks pregnant from that cycle! I am a big advocate of Day 3 transfers - i believe the embryos are better off inside where they belong to implant in their natural environment. I also think some clinics prefer this option if there are fewer embryos in the first place.Wishing you lots of luck!
I've been reading up on D3 transfers and I think you're right, especially as we only have the one embryo and don't want to gamble with it hoping it makes it to D5. Hopefully they agree on Thursday and do the transfer then.
Hey there, I've only gotten three eggs on both of my egg collections and I got pregnant both times. The first ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks due to genetic issues, but I'm currently pregnant again now (we'll see what happens but at least we got to implantation). For our first collection three eggs all fertilized but only got two embryos, and I got pregnant with the second one. The exact same thing happened this time. Best of luck lovely, it only takes one. xo
I had day 5 day transfers for three of my four transfers, and for both of my BFPs. My first transfer was a day 3 because we had wanted to freeze both at day 3, but the other couldn't be frozen on day 3 because it was too slow. She ended up making it to day 5 and implanting, but we lost her at 10 weeks. We started out this past cycle with three embryos at day 3, but one of them stopped before day 5.
Hello. I had a similar thing where my follicles were deemed big enough for egg collection but that only my really big follicles produced mature eggs. Your follicles would have had eggs but they wouldn't be mature I think. My consultant decided on my last round to stim me longer, on a higher dose of Gonal F and did a longer trigger shot. It made such a difference and he picked up double the amount. I wonder if you have a similar issue? Fingers crossed the 3 you picked up are viable. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you xx
Sending you lots of kind thoughts. I really have my fingers crossed for you. I am currently on tww and had 1 egg transferred on Day 3. Found out yesterday the other egg made it to blastocyst but not good enough to freeze. Really hoping the one inside me is really happy where it belongs! But so many unknowns. I also totally understand the disappointment as I responded well to medication and originally got 11 eggs!!! Only 4 mature then 2 fertilised. I was so pleased with 11 and then swiftly thought just two 🤞...I am happy giving day 3 transfer a try rather than waiting until Day 5. Wishing you all the luck!!
The doctor called and they want me to do a day 3 transfer so we're booked for Thursday afternoon. I'm glad they aren't leaving it to chance to see if it makes it to day 5, and just getting it back in as soon as they can. Crossing my fingers now it grows and divides enough to be a good transfer.
Glad they made the choice Laura. On my recent cycle I only had 2 eggs fertilise (only 5 were collected and only 2 were mature - not a good round for me!). I really wanted the clinic to put one back on Day 3, as I was sure neither would make it to day 5, but my clinic really doesn't do day 3 transfers any more 😩 It was stressful as hell. In the end, one made it to a good blastocyst, but sadly BFN. I guess it's hard to know if a bad round is just that, an unlucky round where your ovaries just don't respond as they have in the past but could do better next time, or if my fertility is really just in a relentless downturn! Guess my final cycle in September might answer that 😬 Anyway, I'm keeping everything crossed for a transfer on Thursday for you xx
I had a similar situation on my second round of IVF where they thought there were 4 good sized follicles but they only got 2 eggs- I was devastated. Only one fertilised normally and on day 3 they said it was looking average quality and weren't sure it would make it to day 5. I was meant to be going to day 5 to freeze (3 banking rounds) however I couldn't handle the thought of getting to day 5 and it not being good enough so I asked for a last minute day 3 transfer. Got my first ever BFP. I am now pro day 3 transfers since it makes sense to me that the embryo does better in the body than in a lab. Good luck for your transfer xx
