ERA after chemical pregancy

Im not sure whether to have an ERA now. I’ve just had a chemical pregnancy after my 5th transfer, my 2nd FET.

It was the first time we’ve ever had a positive test & felt crueler that just another negative test somehow..

I’ve been reading that it can be a positive because it shows that my body can actually conceive after 4.5 years of nothing?!

I’ve had 4 failed implantations before this but only two were from 5 day blasts.

Prior to this my dr and I agreed that if this was another negative I’d do an ERA. But I’m not sure if it changes the point of it if I’ve now had conception.. Does this not mean my implantation window is correct??

Confused. Speaking to my dr on Monday but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts/similar situations? x

I had the same decision to make. 2 failed transfers then a chemical. I took some advice from the consultant and the embryologist and they both said that if the implantation window is out it can mean the embryo will start or try to implant but then fail resulting in chemical. Not sure how true that it but they recommended I still have the test 🤷🏼‍♀️ I did and it turns out my implantation window was normal they usually give 120 hours of progesterone and I needed 124 apparently. I was a bit upset that I had potentially wasted the money but did another transfer and I am now 8 weeks pregnant. Apparently quite a few people get pregnant after the ERA, it sometimes has the same effect as an endometrial scratch apparently. Again not sure how true that it’s but 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can I just say I absolutely get what you mean about the chemical. I was devastated after mine, it really is cruel.

Thank you, that’s really interesting to hear. Perhaps it is time I did it then, just to rule it out, if anything.

I know, it is a lot of money on top of everything else - I guess if it helps you conceive in the long run then you wouldn’t care.. And it’s worked for you - congratulations 😊 that’s so great! Really gives me some more hope x

I have had 3 biochemicals- I can understand your feeling about it. After my third embryo transfer I prayed I would not have another biochemical, and if it was not going to stick that I would just get a negative test. I was only recommended an ERA biopsy after my 3rd cycle. The ERA showed that my implantation window was off by one day.

So sorry about your biochemicals, they’re devastating. Ahh, so ERA was worth doing for you then. Have you had another transfer since? x

I have had 2 transfers since, I have gotten further than previously (higher HCG levels) but still lost the pregnancy due to other reasons unfortunately. For me ERA was worth doing as it felt like one step forward.

I’m sorry for your loss. Feels like a super long road doesn’t it.

Yeah for sure, I get that x

I had several negatives, most of which with very good blastocysts. We started trying to adjust my progesterone (with no science behind it) and I got a BFP but it was very late and we lost the baby at 6 wks although this was more than likely due to low progesterone too. The following time we had a chemical. Decided to go for ERA as we'd pretty much tried e everything else. It showed my implantation window was out by a full day. We also checked my progesterone levels which were discovered to be very low. Made adjustments and had a negative in next cycle but hubby's sperm had gotten very poor. We had frozen sperm stored so used that next and we got a BFP.....we now have twins. I really think it made a different along with massively upping my progesterone. My cycles were predominantly with DE so knew it was likely the eggs were good.xx

That’s really interesting, thank you. This was the first time they upped my progesterone after transfer with Lubion x2 & cyclogest x2 daily & like you, I think progesterone is an issue for me as this is the closest we’ve ever come. We haven’t had embryos tested either but I’d prefer not to do that.

We have 3 embryos left now and I want to give them the best chance as OH doesn’t want to do another fresh cycle. So maybe ERA is the best thing for us now.

I am feeling guilty now that I didn’t do ERA before this transfer as we might not have lost two embryos 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope your beautiful babes are doing well x

I had the Era, Emma and Alice after 3 failed transfers and one bfn. It gave my correct implantation timing (which the clinic had been flexible on before) but it also shown I had an infection that wasn’t picked up by a swab. Took meds, followed the implantation recommendations and now I’m 12 weeks pregnant with twins. If you’re spending so much money on transfers I think it’s best to do the era, Emma and Alice to get your final answers. Good luck.

Yes thank you. I think I will do it no. Seems like the time and we only have 3 embryos left so want to give them the best chance.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! x

Yes, I ve had 1 eptopic, 1 miscarriage from natural conception and 1 failed transfer and 1 miscarriage at 6 weeks from 2 genetically tested, top grade embryos. I’m also having thrombophilia screen abs tests for natural killer sells. The money is eye watering but I will do anything to complete our family. It’s so hard isn’t it x

Oh gosh you’ve had such a rough trot. I know what you mean, at this point you wanna try anything. My partner is really worried about money side of things so it limits us a little. He wants a family but doesn’t want to bankrupt us doing it..

I hope you get some answers & next time is the golden transfer x

Yes, mine too is definitely concerned about that. The way I see it , is that people get cars/ kitchen extensions that cost a fortune. I guess with this , there are no guarantees but it definitely feels worth while. I really hope everything goes well for you too! Got to keep up our resilience ✨✨✨

Yes that’s true! I think I’d pay anything to have a child but it’s difficult if you’re not on the same page. Resilience is definately the name of the game 💪x
