Has anyone ever taken buscopan before an embryo transfer? I've read it's supposed to aid implantation as it stops your uterus / muscle cramping x

They gave me it after my MM and it made me run to the toilet for hours it relaxed everything so much . I wouldn’t be taking it ever again unless advised by dr or clinic. Have you asked them ?

The protocol of my current clinic includes one Buscopan suppository 6h before and one 6h after transfer. It didn't help my embryos to implant (but, of course, who knows why they didn't implant?)

I have and personally think it helped me. I did however have the ok from my clinic who gave me it in injection form prior to transfer. In my last one though I just had the tablet form.xx

I would guess the less bunged up you are prior to treatment the better. I get constipated around ovulation week and have been tempted to use something to relieve my pressure but Once I’ve ovulated my body naturally starts processing again. I would ask your clinic for advice before taking any medicine. Be prepared to take a day off for any sort of laxative though.

Thanks for your reply. I did take Buscopan when I had my ERA back in March and I wasn’t that bad. I’ll speak to the clinic this week and see what they say about it :) x

Buscopan is supposed to stop the muscle cramps and spasms that cause diarrhoea, so it’s the opposite of a laxative. It can cause constipation. I have to take colofac and occasionally buscopan for a different medical condition.

I continued taking it during my first fresh transfer without thinking, then had a total freak out and asked the specialist if it would do any harm. He said not at all, but to stop taking it if I did get a positive pregnancy test, because they have not studied the impacts of the drug on the baby during pregnancy, so they just don’t know.

Because I need to take the antispasmodic for my other medical condition, I always take it. Hasn’t helped me get pregnant because I’m still trying!

Best of luck! X 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I took it on my last round that was successful. I am sure it was not the only reason but I think it helped because on my first round I had some very light cramping throughout the 2ww, and often get some luteal cramping on my natural cycles, whereas on this one I took it 30 mins before EC then twice a day for 4 days and no cramping. I took 20 mg before EC then 10 mg twice a day for 4 days. xx
