Hi, could anyone give me a little advice on acupuncture? Am having a frozen embryo transfer on 7th July and wondering if it’s too late for to start acupuncture? Are you meant to have a session couple months before u start treatment and then during or what is recommended? Xx

In theory it’s supposed to be every other day during stims and then also within 3 days of the transfer.

To be honest whilst I enjoyed it I did it for 3 out of 4 of my FET....the one cycle I didn’t do it I had twins 🤣

Hi lovely, if you find it relaxing then great, but I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on it. I’ve had it the day of transfer and the day after to help with implantation but never had a BFP. Good luck xx

Hi! On the Zita West Instagram page you find a couple of good interviews with their acupuncturists. Very informative! Good luck with your transfer xx

Theoretically (for IVF), it is supposed to help with blood flow to the uterus and lower abdomen, and also help with stress and anxiety through relaxation. I use donor eggs/embryos, so for my first fresh transfer with a donor cycle, I did acupuncture religiously - before and after transfer. It failed. My second transfer was an FET and I skipped the acupuncture. It also failed. My uterine lining was trilaminar and the same thickness both transfers, so the acupuncture did not seem to make a difference.

I will soon be doing FETs with donor embryos from a different clinic. My specialist there does not mind the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs at all, and says there have been studies that show they 'may' help, as long as the herbs don't interact with the medicine she is giving me. So I am seeing a TCM practitioner again this cycle, for acupuncture and 'dr approved' herbs. We'll see how I go.

Best of luck with your transfer. Fingers crossed! x

I think acupuncture is a personal choice, it’s definitely not conclusive either way. I had acupuncture an hour before my transfer and straight after, to help with blood flow in the uteruses but also for relaxation, I also had 1 session during my 2ww. I was luck to have a BFP on my first round and I am now 11.2 weeks pregnant. I really suffered from high anxiety during the whole process and found acupuncture coupled with meditation really helped me to relax and calm my mind, so for that alone I would recommend it x good luck 🥰

If you have already found a specialist, it would be worth to check what the line of treatment would be for you at the stage you are at.. each one does it differently..I found accupuncture really helped me for fresh cycle..during that time, I would have weekly sessions starting from stimulation to egg collection and then after embryo transfer and for a couple of weeks after too..that cycle didn’t end up being successful but definitely my belief is that it helped in getting something to freeze at least..
