Medication after bfp

How many weeks after a bfp did you continue your ivf medication protocol? And was there any changes to it? And lastly was it a gradual reduction or was it cold turkey.

I took my progesterone injections right up to my 12 week scan and then stopped them cold turkey. I didn’t have any side effects etc from coming off them suddenly x

Ok interesting my first time I stayed on both estrogen and progesterone until 13 weeks. This time is both but being cut cold turkey at 10 weeks

Congratulations on your BFP! I took my meds up to the 12 week scan then went cold turkey. It’s scary and I’d have rathered taper off but my clinic said there’s really no need at that point. X

Thank you. I had something similar the first time but was until 13 weeks. However this time they’re cutting the meds at 10 weeks they said placenta takes over at 8 weeks so necessary past then?

I was told similar when I questioned cutting the drugs cold turkey at 12 weeks. I wanted to taper but they said the body actually takes over in producing what you need much earlier than that - which is probably why your dr is saying 10 is safe. If you feel very uncomfortable though maybe ask if you can taper over a longer period just for your own peace of mind

Congratulations! I was on progesterone pessaries. My prescription went up to 8 weeks and I was supposed to go from 2 x 400mg a day to zero. I was worried about going cold turkey so from 7 weeks I started weaning and made them last until 10 weeks.

I researched quite a bit at the time and it seems the progesterone prescribed is waaay over what your body needs and is only needed at all in a small number of pregnancies very early on, which is why clinics say to just stop (although they all seem to have different different instructions on how and when to stop!)

Yes this is similar to what the clinic I’m using now is saying. That the placenta takes over at 8 weeks but stopping meds gold turkey at 10 weeks. I hate taking the meds because I have bad nausea so I’m wanting to stop earlier if I can but don’t want to jeopardize anything

Congratulations! My clinic's protocol is to start weaning off the medication after your 12week scan and it has taken me up until 13 weeks to come off the meds completely. x

Thank you. It’s interesting how clinics vary so much. I wish I could stop the meds now lol I hate taking them and they make me so sick

I stopped at 11+5 cold turkey. Bit of brown discharge for a day or 2 but no other side effects.

I took full meds until 10 weeks, I was on 4 x200 progesterone and 4x Progynova went down to half progesterone and Progynova and on week 11 went down to one. I was advised to take at week ten morning and evening and week 11 morning. I did find that reducing them and spreading them out over the day the side effects were less more. I suffered terrible to Progynova headaches.
