Bleeding after BFP?! 😢

Girls...as you might have seen from my previous post, I got my BFP on Tuesday last week on my OTT. However, 3 days after, the Friday just gone I was getting AF like cramps and...in the afternoon when I went for a wee, there was quite alot of very brown blood on my panty liner. It continued to be there when I wiped throughout the evening and slowly faded into light pink blood and then completely stopped.

Have any of you girls had something like this after their BFP and then gone on to have a successful pregnancy? Or has anyone had this and then discovered it was a chemical? Just anything is better than wondering. Please do let me know if you’ve experienced this. I cant stop worrying

Brown usually means old blood so it could be nothing. I didn't realise so many pregnant women bled in the early weeks until I read about other womens' experiences on boards like this. I had a couple of instances of brown spotting that I ended up putting down to a bit of irritation from the pessaries or scratching myself putting them in.

If its red blood or clots then you may need to speak with the clinic. Hopefully it's just your body adjusting to the pregnancy x

I hope that’s the case...I don’t use pessaries I have Lubion injections instead. Also my first 2 boys that I conceived naturally 9 years ago, I don’t remember having this in my pregnancies with them. I guess that’s why I’m so worried.

Hi

I bled the day before our 7 week viability scan

In the space of 10 minutes it was brown, bright red, dark red, brown then stopped.

I thought that was it!!

I had the scan, all was well but they found a subchorionic hematoma which was 29mm x 12mm in size.

Apparently these are fairly common. But I understand bleeding is common in the first trimester.

If it’s heavy enough to be on a sanitary towel, you would need to go to A&E

I think I’m having similar bleeding, I’m going to call the clinic tomorrow and see if they can check otherwise the amount of stressing and worrying that I’m doing is bound to harm the baby anyway but I can’t help it 😭

Definitely call your clinic.

I see you’ve done another pregnancy test and all looks good - try not to panic - easier said then done, but you won’t have long to wait until you can phone them.

Just keep monitoring it on a sanitary towel as they will ask you about the amount of blood

It’s now bleeding more of a red...it’s not super heavy, I have a panty liner on and it’s on that. I’m so worried. I just took another pregnancy test and the line is there darker than ever and showed up instantly

I had light bleeding early once and it turned into a miscarriage and another time I had light bleeding early and everything was fine.

When it was a miscarriage the test lines got lighter. When everything was ok the lines got darker.

Big hugs I know how horrible this is. xxx

Oh I’m so sorry about your miscarriage! That’s the thing it could mean that it’s normal but then again it could by all means be a miscarriage, I don’t have my scan till 23rd June so I don’t know if everything’s okay

Hey! Congrats on the BFP!I bled early on in both of my pregnancies. In this pregnancy, it was bright red with clots but still turned out to be ok and baby no 2 should be arriving some time in the next couple of weeks.

It is always scary seeing blood but it is so common. I'd say keep an eye on it. If it gets heavier or you have cramps, call your clinic or speak to an early pregnancy unit. Xx

I think the reason why I’m more concerned is that when I was pregnant with my elder two boys (who were conceived naturally) I had no bleeding, so I get when people say it’s normal, some women get it in early pregnancy but I’ve never had it previously so I’m just so scared

I totally get it! It's horrible. I've read that you're much more likely to bleed with IVF (either because of medication or all the extra examinations during the process and the process itself) and that something like 40% of IVF pregnancies will experience bleeding xx

I bled up until 12 weeks with my son almost every week. Primarily brown and very light pink. Try not to stress about it (I know easier said than done).

Hello, I bled 3 days after my transfer and also 8dp5dt . Luckily I'm 22 weeks pregnant with twins 🤗 . Hopefully it's implantation bleeding x

I had bright red blood and clots and everything was fine thankfully and he’s a cheeky 7 month old now. It was very scary though I never found out what caused it. Give your clinic a ring they may want to up your progesterone xx

Could be a bad sign but... Could be a hematoma. They’re quite common and sometimes bleed out red or brown blood and can have clots. Sometimes the body just absorbs them and you have no idea you had it. Common with IVF, older mothers and second pregnancies for some reason. I had one at 5.5 weeks bright red with clots and was convinced all was over (FET pregnancy) Went for a scan the next day as I have a history of ectopics and embryo was still there! Now I’m due next Friday. Blood doesnt necessarily mean bad news.

Hi. I’ve had the same twice. The second time it carried on for two days and then stopped. I did a pregnancy test and all is still well. Do a test with the clear blue how many weeks to put your mind at rest x

I know it’s hard to not worry. Just so you know I bled throughout my first trimester and went on to have a healthy baby. My doc said some women bleed they don’t always know why.

I had this on my first BFP, she’s now a bouncy happy 3 year old. It’s completely normal from what I was told.

Good luck xx

Yes bled every week since my bfp and now coming up 12 weeks 🥰 I documented what was happening to me on another thread - it's scary but hang in there.

Xx

Sending you a big hug it really is a horrible feeling, but from a lot of IVF ladies I know they had the same including me with both my babes. With my 2nd I'd get what looked like a period bang on every month till I was about 5 months pregnant. Wish you all the best

Thank you so much girls for all your responses, it really has calmed me down and made me feel a lot better. I did call the clinic before work this morning and they said some nurses will call me back at some point today. So just waiting to hear from them. I really do hope it’s nothing. To be fair I’ve been feeling really nauseous since I woke up

I had mild on and off cramping and brown/pink spotting for around 8 weeks of my ICSI pregnancy. I believe it was due to all the hormones and cyclogest pessaries but I had a very healthy pregnancy and now have a very lively 3 year old! I would say if it gets heavier and more bright red and any pain speak to clinic. You know yourself if it doesn’t feel right or you are overly anxious there is no harm in asking for extra checks x If your test lines are darker then I would presume it’s just a bit of hormone shift causing it ❤️

Hey. Sorry to hear about what your going through. I literally just went through a similar thing and I know how horrid it is to worry amd just keep thinking about what could go wrong. I got my bfp 13dp3dt, started bleeding one day after with cramps which last five days. I was terrified. Just got it confirmed today that I've had a pregnancy in an unknown location. Now to be honest, that's just my unfortunate situation, that doesn't mean anything like this will happen with you so the best thing to do is to get in contact with your clinic so they can run your bloods and an early scan if needed. Wish you all the best of luck xxx

Hi there, I bled during week 11 of my pregnancy. I also had period-like cramps during at least the entire first semester. Please try not to fret, it could literally be anything ❤️

Wow thank you so much for all your reassurances, I really do appreciate this little community, it puts you at ease when you can talk to other women who have or are going through the same thing and can relate and share experiences. I did speak to my clinic so they’ve booked me in for a scan Thursday morning just to make sure it’s nothing to worry about. Fingers crossed till then. ❤️

Hi, I hope all is well but wanted to let you know that about two weeks after my BFP, I had a massive cramp and then gushing red blood. It was pretty horrifying. It was a sub chorionic tear. The doctors were able to easily see it, and though I was told to take it easy, I was told it would heal itself, which it did over the course of the next several weeks. After the initial red blood, there was a lot of brown blood. Hoping you hear positive news💕
