Donor egg failure - has anyone gone on to have success?

Out of 10 donor eggs, we had 1 to transfer and 1 7-day blastocyst to freeze. Looks like the 1 ‘good’ egg has failed and my hopes are low for the second.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of disappointment with donor eggs and then gone on to have live births?

Hubby is 49, we’ve both had genetic testing. He’s had 2 rounds of comet tests. Clean lifestyle, supplements etc

Hi Gizmo247,

How you handling now?

I also had failed cycle...2 more day3 embryos if they make it to go to the next clinic.... I probably go with other clinic.Last year I thought I am going to use my eggs...then moved on to donor...but looks like donor is also impossible!!

feeling so helpless :(

Unfortunately even though the donor goes through rigorous testing there are never any dead certs it will work. I’ve read of several ladies who’s donor eggs have failed.

We used my younger sister as a donor in our third round, I’m 41 and my husband is 59.

Thankfully for us the first transfer back worked and I’m now 13 weeks + 2.

So it’s a case of finding the right donor.

When you say your husbands been comer tested do you mean he has had a dna fragmentation test done?!

Also have you looked at possible ERA/Emma and Alice testing on your uterine lining to ensure the embryos are being put back at the optimum time

Congratulations on your 13 weeks and I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly. Yes, hubby has had DNA fragmentation tests. We haven't looked at ERA/EMMA/ Alice but that might be the next step. thanks for your advice.

HiWe did a donor round and got two blastocysts. Transferred both and one stuck but miscarried.

We went back and did a second round. We got three blastocysts and transferred two. We recently had twins and have one frozen.

My partner doesn't have great sperm but the clinic still guarantees two good quality blastocysts. Unfortunately, we weren't successful first round but we got there in the end.

great to know that you got there in the end - this is the news I think I needed to hear

Hi, in our first donor ivf out of 11 eggs we only got 2 blasts and that round was unsuccessful.

We then had a second round where we got 10 eggs and 6 blasts, this round resulted in my daughter.

Our second round was heavily discounted and we only had to pay for the new donors medication. Since we had already had all the sperm tested ahead of the first round then the failure was attributed to the quality of the donors eggs. It may be worth checking whether your clinic offers any guarantees.

That's wonderful that your second round was successful. I might PM you to ask the name of your clinic, if you don't mind.

Oh I’m so sorry , it’s heartbreaking when a donor transfer fails. Our first transfer with donor eggs failed too. I was so broken after, I was so convinced it was going to work first time. Our 2nd one worked when we transferred two embryos. As I sit here typing this, I’m nursing our 7 week old son. Is it possible for you to get more donor eggs. I know it’s really expensive but it is soooooo worth it. Xx

Yes, I think from all the input here that we will look into getting more donor eggs and giving it another go. Wonderful that you got there - enjoy every minute!

Are you using frozen eggs or freshly retrieved eggs? Sometimes the egg and sperm dont mix well and it's one of those things but we used donor eggs and have had success. We did have a few tries but after having an ERA we know why the ones we transferred didnt work....my implantation window was out but we managed to get good blastocysts using fresh donor eggs from a young ish donor and my hubby had a really low sperm count. Dont give up yet!!xx

thanks for the encouragement. We used frozen eggs. I'll certainly investigate fresh eggs for our next round.

Fresh eggs from a young donor are definitely the way to go. We got 7 eggs, 6 embryos, 5 of which passed PGA tests, so pretty good result.

Hi lovely,I had 8 eggs which only 4 fertilized and there was only 3 day 3 embryos. My clinic don’t do blastocyst… maybe because they only guarantee day 3 embryos since there is less risk for them

Now is me with $21000 loss !!! So disappointed..

I was exactly the same. 10 eggs only 2 fertilised and on day of 5dt was told that both were slowing and could have one put in and wait and see if other made to day 6 to be frozen or Trf both and see what happens.

I was a mess this was all told to me while I was in about to have the Trf.

We made the decision that the best chance they had was with me so trfd both.

On d10 I did a test BFN but continued meds and waited for OTD (d12) and got the faintest of lines.

1 week later I had a massive bleed with lots of clots so was certain that was it all over.

Continued with meds and had by 6 week scan and saw 1 perfect bean with a strong heartbeat.

Consultant said could have been 2nd egg that caused the bleed or the pesseries as the make the cervix soft and can cause bleeding.

Anyway long story short I now have a heathy 9month old LG. I hated every second of pregnancy and worried at every single sign but she’s here.

The other thing consultant said was sometimes girls are slightly slower growers so maybe that’s why the embryos slowed.

Fingers crossed for you I really hope u get the same outcome x
