Covid-19 vaccine and getting pregnant

FrancyItaly profile image
27 Replies

I booked my first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on Thursday. Even if I stopped the Clomid treatment this month I ovulated, which was a nice surprise. We are having timed sex intercourse.

Is it safe to have the vaccine on Thursday? I will be on 5 days post ovulation.

I will start ivf treatment in July, is it ok to go ahead with the vaccine next week?

I had mine a few days before starting stims after checking with my clinic x

Thank you Lizzie. I do feel it should be safe but sometimes I worry and think “what if this is the month the miracle will happen”. Wishing you all the best on your cycle! 😊

It’s a personal choice. But i took the pragmatic view that if my cycle worked my baby would be protected. If it didn’t I would never know 100% what caused it but I would be able to seek solace and see some family knowing I had some protection. My clinic was helpful in recommending I go ahead. x

I’m glad to hear that and I called my clinic in the end. They said it’s a personal choice, to wait 4 weeks if having immunity tests before the treatment (of course not, i’ll do the first cycle on nhs 😅) and they said better before than during treatment! x

My clinic said the same. They weren't willing to give a yes or no answer. They said if I was to take the vaccine I would have to wait 4 weeks for testing immunes.

I'm concerned about having the vaccine. If the doctors are trying to suppress the immune system and I have the vaccine which is only going to strengthen it then I'm not sure if having the vaccine is a good idea. I do need to make a decision very soon.

My ivf is not imminent, it will be in a couple of months otherwise I don’t know what I would do. Is not an easy decision.

My transfer will be around mid July. I've kind of decided that it's not right for me to take the vaccine.

Check with your clinc about the vacine. Mine advises you have both jabs before starting treatment or none. You cant just have one. Personally im not having any. Not enough research done x

Thank you, i no longer go to the clinic because I finished my 6 Clomid cycles and now I will do ivf with nhs in July since we are eligible. I might try to ask them but It’s hard to get hold and I know the nhs would recommend it x

It would take 3 months for you have both jabs so your treatment might end up being later than july x

I have my second mid August, it wouldn’t be a bad idea but I don’t think that with nhs I can decide timings 🤷🏻‍♀️ i’ll wait for their phone call and see. Thank you x

Me neither!! X

Starry85 I agree that there's not enough research. I think I probably won't have the vaccine as I'm doing immunes and the vaccine will only strengthen my immunes which is not what I need but I am anxious about not being vaccinated :(

Today they confirmed I will start in 2-3 months (August the earliest) and they recommended having 1 dose this week to have some protection in case pregnancy occurs with the treatment. I guess we just have to follow the advice of our own clinics x

The problem is the clinic I'm doing my immunes with said I need to carry out my own research. They're not willing to recommend if I should take it or not.

FrancyItaly in reply to Summertime12

Ok, in that case I wouldn’t do it probably because that would delay the start of your treatment. It also depends if time is on your side.

Can I ask if you have immunity problems or is it routine of the clinic to do it? My private clinic does require immunes before starting Ivf and they said if I do it with them I need to wait 4 weeks after the vaccine to do immune testing and then start the treatment.

I did immune testing a year ago and all was fine. In 2-3 months I will do a fresh cycle on Nhs, they do not do immunes so it is ok to have the vaccine a couple of months earlier (apparently) It’s a personal choice!

I only found out I have immunes issues when I started IVF at my clinic. They like to test all patients for immunes and when they tested mine my results were elevated for Cytokinesis and natural killer cells.

My clinic have advised also it's my choice if I want to have the vaccine and that if I do I need to wait 4 weeks before testing for immunes again.

Sorry I meant Cytokines

Was this at a clinic in London? I wonder if we are talking about the same clinic 😅 mine is Argc and they said to wait 4 weeks if doing immunes and ivf with them x

Lol I was wondering the same thing. Yes I'm doing immunes with ARGC :)

So will you be having the vaccine? I wish they could just let us know their real thoughts but I know they don't want to be responsible.

FrancyItaly profile image
FrancyItaly in reply to Summertime12

I knew it was with them 😅 They simply can’t because they don’t want to take responsibilities. I am doing the vaccine because for me ivf on nhs is not so close, they said 2-3 months. Not sure if I will do the 2nd in August, when I told them they said I recommend doing one but it’s your personal choice since they can’t back it up. Argc said you can but wait 4 weeks before immunes 🤷🏻‍♀️

😄 but in general how do you feel about the vaccine and treating immunes. They are trying to suppress our immune system but the vaccine will only strengthen it. I'm really confused and not sure what to do

FrancyItaly profile image
FrancyItaly in reply to Summertime12

Hmmm probably that is the reason why they said to wait 4 weeks? Otherwise they would say wait 8-12 weeks no? Although I am not sure why they didn’t tell you, I have the feeling that what they say depends a lot on the person you speak to (not only at argc but professionals in general these days)

I will call ARGC again. I know of another clinic who advised a friend of a friend not to take the vaccine.

Hey there, as already advised it may be best to check with your clinic. This topic has been discussed on this forum and I noted clinics have varying policies. Mine said it was okay during stims but not around egg collection.

I personally timed mine between cycles even the second dose which I took at 11 weeks and not 12 weeks as AF was due on the 12th week and I knew I will be starting stims.

All the best with your journey 🙏🏾

At the moment I am “having a break” from the clinic and will do IVF with nhs since we are eligible for a couple of rounds. I would be surprised if they didn’t recommend it. I will try to get in touch with them. I would the first dose this week and start treatment mid July.
