Hi there.

I kindly want to ask you all about the experience to do the Covid Vaccine right before ivf. I am a little bit confused and any experience could help.

Kind regards,

Hi, when I had my vaccine my clinic wanted to postpone my IVF. X

My clinic always recommended to have the vaccine at least 1 week before EC or transfer in case you develop a fever or feel poorly for few days afterX

Hi, I had mine, with agreement from my clinic when I was downregging and three days before I started stims. The only concern was around side effects later in the cycle but this was back in May and I suspect there is more data for them to work with now. It did me no harm - I’m six months pregnant after that cycle and had my second jab at 10 weeks. It also greatly helped my mental health to know I was protected from the very start of my pregnancy and didn’t have to stay at home. x

I did the second dose of Pfizer one month before starting stims x

I was told to leave a 2 week gap between the vaccine and starting the FET cycle.

Hi Adanali, firstly follow advice from your clinic/doctor. However I had my 1st vaccination the day before my stims started, it was so horrible!! That cycle actually ended up cancelled as I think just too much stress on my body. As some people have said that it's best not to do it really close to starting cycle just incase you get a cold etc. Goodluck

I had my first dose on around the 3rd day of stims and had my egg collection 13 days later. The clinic didn't seem concerned provided it didn't make me unwell (I had no reaction). My husband had his a couple of weeks before me. We got 100% fertilization and blasts, and a BFP from that one. Sadly ended around 6 weeks (possibly a progesterone issue). Had my second dose around three weeks before the FET using one of those blasts and that one has stuck. I think the main thing is how you react (very individual) as if you're unwell the clinic is less likely to want to go ahead. But I wanted to make sure that I was protected and that any little one would be too as it seemed chances of harm from covid were much higher than any risk from the vaccine, but entirely individual decision. I'm counting down to my booster to put my mind at ease x

I had back to back cycles of IVF and had my first jab not long after egg collection of the first round and a week or so before my third and final cycle. I had a fresh transfer and got a BFP despite being 43 years of age.

Like someone else said, it is reassuring to know I am protected. I will be less able to socialise if I was not double vaccinated and pregnant. However, my 3rd trimester starts next week so I will take some precautions for peace of mind than for anything else.

I wish you all the best with your decision x

My clinic recommended I have my vaccines and said it was safer for me to do so - I checked each time I got invited for them. I had the first dose after a cycle and 2nd 3 days after my FET. Both times I was OK and didn’t have any side affects apart from a sore arm.I’d say see what your clinic are recommending, as I know it’s not the same across the board. Plus do what makes you feel more comfortable. Personally I’m so glad my clinic are recommending it as I wanted my vaccines and I’d be more scared if I did fall pregnant and I wasn’t protected.

Good luck x

I spoke to my private consultant and he strongly recommended I have the vaccination when it was offered to me, before doing IVF so I did. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable having a vaccination while pregnant but taking into account that 20% of people in hospital with COVID are pregnant women, this feels like the safest option for all concerned to me.

Just to add I had just found out I wasn't pregnant after an embryo transfer when I was offered the vaccine so I got it then and had my second vaccination a couple of days before egg collection on my next IVF.

My clinic said to go ahead with vaccination (they were very glad I was doing it), but it would be better if it was at least 3 days before starting IVF -- in case I was feeling poorly and had to attend some appointments. Any time after EC would have worked with them (I was doing back to back freeze all cycles).

My clinic recommended I had both vaccines. But advised me to leave a month before starting my next cycle . She said this because she found that some of her patients were having delayed periods which were affecting their cycles . Saying that, the vaccine did not delay my period .

I will give you my own personal experience but I haven’t read the other replies. I had ivf before I had the vaccine and had two babies (twins) unfortunately I lost the one my little boy is now nearly 3 we had ivf again this year after the two vaccines and it failed. I don’t know if the vaccine is to blame but I had the best grade embryo. That’s just my experience I’m not saying you shouldn’t get vaccinated that is your choice just giving you my experience

I sought advice from my clinic as it was roughly around the time when pregnant women and those planning to become were advised not to have the vaccine, my clinic pretty much said it was up to me. I had my first vaccine in Feb just before my first cycle and second shot 3cmonths before my second cycle. Only symptom was feeling like someone punched me in my arm. I did research the type of vaccine and weigh the pros and cons. For me risking catching the virus and potentially delaying a cycle or having it whisky pregnant was far too risky. A friend also going through IVF decided not to have the vaccine, caught it and is now deciding whether to continue treatment abroad potentially putting others at risk too. It's entirely a personal choice which only you can make.
