Bleeding after BFP!

I had my IVF transfer on the 25th and got a BFP 2 days ago, tested again this morning & it was still positive but have started to bleed not alot but its pinkish red colour and i have lower stomach and back pains. Should I be worried? x

Hi Chloe, don't panic bleeding can be fairly common. It happened to me if you click my username and see my posts and I'm now 32 weeks pregnant. The best thing I did was to contact my clinic early and they were able to up my progesterone. I'm not sure where the bleeding came from or if it was the extra progesterone that stopped it but there were lots of stories like mine where people had had an early bleed and it turned out okay at the first scan. I'm keeping everything crossed for you xxxx

More brownish blood today then anything else, quite uncomfortable cramping and back pain. Tried to phone my clinic but they are closed on weekends🙄 thank you for checking up xx

Oh no, how stressful for you. As someone else suggested is there not an emergency number you can reach your clinic on?

It will be a bit of a wait until your first scan, I had to wait until I was 6 weeks 3 days as they said before that it would've been too early to see on scan. How many weeks are you now?

I had backache and cramping too so it doesn't mean it's over. Definitely continue with any vitamins and meds. I very nearly stopped my meds as I was convinced it was all over because I had red blood and big clots too. I still can't actually believe it turned out okay in the end. It's hard to stay hopeful but do hold in there and take care of yourself. Do whatever you need to do, keep busy/relax whatever works to pass the time. It will pass and you will get through this 💪 ❤️ I hope you're getting lots of support xx

Thank you for all your advice and support, I am 5 weeks today still bleeding and have dull cramps all day.

Clinic have giving me a scan date for the 30th but I have managed to get an early scan at my local early pregnancy unit for the 16th.

I am trying to stay positive but it is so hard x

Yes, it's so hard to feel positive - I definitely didn't. I just wanted to move forwards it's horrible not knowing and my bleeding would start and stop so it really messed with my head. It was easier not to get my hopes up.

I had to go on my own to my scan so I tested the night before to help myself prepare for bad news. I know hcg stays in your system but the test line was so dark and I couldn't understand it. So I sent my hubby out to get one of the clear blue weeks indicator ones and that one said 3+ whereas when I'd last tested before the bleeding started it said 1-2 weeks. I couldn't understand how it could have gone up because I was convinced I wasn't pregnant. Have you tested recently or would you prefer to hold off? Thinking of you xx

Its an awful feeling, I have just tested now on a digital one and it says 2-3 which is 4/5 weeks I'm 5 weeks today so it's right. I just don't get why the bleeding is getting more everyday x

Hi Chloe, I feel for you as I’m in a very similar situation. Started spotting 7dpt, which turned into bleeding the next day. Heavy bleeding. I’m 12dpt, still bleeding but got a BFP, but I’m so worried that it may not end well with all this bleeding :/

Have your clinic offered a HCG test?

Hi its so horrible isn't it, i started light bleeding on the 3rd and yesterday it turned into really heavy bleeding with big clots and mild pains.

No my clinic haven't offered me anything have just basically told me to ride it out, I contacted my early pregnancy unit last week and they have booked me in for an early scan this Wednesday.

Will you be having a HCG test? If not best thing to do is to contact your local hospitals early pregnancy unit.

Hi, so I had the same response from my clinic- they said ‘it can go either way’ and to wait till my scan. It is horrible to wait with all this bleeding

Please update us on Wednesday- how far along will you be then? Can you request a HCG test same time too?

Keep thinking if this could be an ectopic or an early miscarriage for me, I’m losing hope with all this bleeding (I had clots too a few days ago). It’s been so stressful 🤧

I haven’t contacted the epu yet, will see if I can get a hcg test there? Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us xx

I will be 5 weeks 6days im not holding much hope, i guess there won't be much point in a hcg test the scan should tell me what's happening. My bleeding is really heavy but will let you know Wednesday morning how everything goes.

I've had 2 ectopics in the past and lost both my tubes so please do go to a&e if you get really bad pain especially shoulder pain.

Definatley call your EPU I think its the only way of us getting any help. Good luck xx

Hi Chloe,

I called my Ivf clinic’s emergency number as it’s Sunday today and did manage to spoke to a doctor. He said he was really sorry for me and that it sounded like I was having an early miscarriage or an ectopic.. he was pretty sure about it 🤧 And that I could test positive for up to 15 days. I think I will go in for a HCG test tomorrow but they haven’t confirmed it yet.

Hi Chloe. I was just wondering if you have an update? Sorry to be nosy but I am in the same position. At 10dp5dt I had some brown bleeding/discharge when i wiped so tested and got a really strong positive. Tested again at 12dp5dt - still positive but that night had a little red bleeding. By the following day my bleeding got heavier and red with some clots I tested again (now 13dp5dt) and still a very strong line. I am planning on testing again in the morning and phoning my clinic (they are not open over the weekend). I know I just need to wait to speak to them tomorrow but was wondering how it went with you? Hope you are ok and all is well xxx

Hi, your not being nosy we are all in this together.

I am still having quite heavy bleeding, havent managed to see anyone yet as my clinic is closed on weekends too but they have said that there's nothing much they can do anyways and that its down to me to get in touch with my local early pregnancy unit which I have done already, they have given me a scan for the 16th.

I tested with a clear blue digital that tells you how far along you are and its gone up to 3+ from 2-3 so I'm holding out a little hope that my hcg levels are still rising enough to change the test.

I will update you on Wednesday after my scan, all we can do is ride out the storm...stay strong and rest up xx

Thanks for replying. It must be a good sign that the test has gone up to 3+ weeks - I haven't used the digital tests. I will ring my clinic first thing in morning and see what they say but I haven't got much hope! I will keep everything crossed for you for Wednesday, look after yourself xxx

Hi i managed to get an early scan this morning, all they could see was blood clots so its looking like I've lost it. They have done bloods so waiting for them to confirm x

I’m really sorry to hear that Chloe. I have spoken to my clinic today and there is nothing they can do at mo cos too early i juat have to wait and test later in week. I am not feeling very hopeful as i am bleeding again now. Sendig you big hugs, lookafter yourself xxx

Hi yes it was internal, Dr said she couldn't see any sign of pregnancy just loads of blood clots. I'm feeling really unwell today and just want it all to stop. They've told me to keep taking my ivf meds untill Wednesday when I have another blood test but I'm just so done with it all...really struggling. I hope you get some good news soon, not all bleeds are miscarriages x
