Does anyone have any noticeable hair loss and are possibly linking it to going through IVF?
I’m about to start my 4th round and my hair has been falling out at an alarming rate and I don’t know if it’s linked to my treatment or otherwise.
I didn’t have the thickest hair to begin with and it’s gotten so bad, really I would say within the last 4 months Iv really noticed it ramping up and becoming thinner and thinner!! My hair is so dark so can noticeably see my scalp shining through.
I know hormones can have an impact but has anyone experienced this and what did you do about it? I’m really starting to freak out. Help 🥺 x

Yes, I had that and wasn't sure if it was the stress of 2 rounds, both with OHSS or the hormones. I've been taking a hair growth supplement and it's starting to grow back.
Hey!! This is me too. How are your periods? I had very clotty/heavy periods, drier skin and hair loss. I saw an endocrinologist and a gynae (privately) went on 25mcg of thyroxine and 610 mg of iron supplements and within. 3 months my hair is a lot better. Periods seem to be normal too. Also my last cycle after 90 days of the above treatment, I had a good cycle. (First cycke in 5 years were I had top quality blastocysts all chromosomally normal too) I am 40. Gynae recommend visceral hair supplements/shampoo. Also try and go ammonia free of you colour hair. Mine was awful. Hubby had to unclog the bathroom every time I washed my hair!
Hey, thank you for your message 😚 My periods are normal and arrive bang on time every month and always have. How did you get to see an endocrinologist? Did you go to your doctor and got referred?
I’ll definitely have a look at the visceral supplements. Oooh and also I was completely unaware that there was an option of ammonia free hair dye, this i defo need to look at as my greys are quick growing and I’m certainly not ready to embrace them 😔 x
Hey, I had the same problem too and I had thick curly hair where I lost 50% of my hair during Stimson before egg retrieval. I had to cut it too short to not feel embarrassed. 😪. That was my first cycle. A year later I got pregnant with my 3rd cycle and I grew it all back once my daughter was born. I didn't take any hair supplements but was a long painful wait.
Awww it’s bloody awful isn’t it! I had egg retrieval in January so yeah I would say it’s really become noticeable in the last couple of months. Could be linked. Urgh it’s the length of time it takes to grow back, blimin forever!! I’m currently colouring my scalp dark to hide the thin areas but terrified to wash and brush my hair. My heart breaks a little bit more each time when I see them flowing down the drain or my brush is full within days 😖 x
Hi, it might be worth getting your thyroid levels checked if you haven't already, it could be linked to that too as it's one of the symptoms but also could be all the stress and crap we have to go through on this journey!
I contacted the hospital today and they told me no no this doesn’t usually happen etc and could be any of the meds Iv previously taken or not linked at all. I think it is due to my body having a hormonal imbalance when I’m off the meds after each of my failures it’s like going cold turkey. I dunno I’m just surmising. They even told me I could delay my next round which is due to start in the next 10 days but it would be my call. I don’t see any point in delaying as I’m certain this will be my last round so what’s the point in delaying when it’ll take yonks for my hair to grow back again. As if IVF wasnt torturous enough! 😣
I’m going to contact the doctor tomorrow and see what they say. Can’t sit and wait to see what will happen x
Yes I think I would definitely be the same way, what's the point in waiting. It could be the meds, different people respond in different ways. It's such a cocktail of drugs, our poor bodies! I do see a few others here had the same problem following the meds too. Hair loss from thyroid normally happens over a period of time and is all over the head instead of in patches like alopecia or stress. See what they say tomorrow anyway, they might have some solution hopefully.
Yup after two failed transfers and what feels like endless waiting, I’ve probably lost around 40% volume.Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and spray is good nioxin.com/en-GB x
