We had 12 eggs, 7 of which fertilised but I got the call this morning (day 3)that only 3 had divided but with fragments. We made the decision to transfer 2 today to hopefully give them a better chance of survival in their natural habitat.
I can’t believe I am writing that as from the start of the ivf journey I said I would only transfer 1 but when you are faced with the potential of none it becomes a valid option.
So I’m just wondering if anyone can share a success story with day 3 poor quality to give me some hope xx

Hi Candlewax, I can’t help with Day 3 transfer outcomes, but we also had low quality embryos and did a double transfer on day 5. I am now 12 weeks pregnant.
We had 17 eggs, 13 fertilised. Got a call on Day 4 which was very downbeat because 6 had stopped developing or developed abnormally and of the other 7 there was a lot of fragmentation. On day 5, only 2 had made it and the clinic graded them both C. I was devastated and cried a lot but just 7 days later I started with brown spotting and knew it was a good sign. 8dp5dt I got a BFP.
I know it’s hard but try to ignore there grading. If the clinic is doing the transfer it’s because there is a reasonable chance that one (or both!) of the embryos will implant. Know that you’re doing the best thing for them and giving you and them the best chance of success by transferring two.
I had a day 3 transfer of an 'average' graded embryo end of Jan and I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. I only had 1 egg our of 2 collected fertilise normally so hopes were very low but somehow that average embryo held on. My previous round I had a fresh transfer of a good 5 day embryo graded 4AB which did not stick. So there is always hope for the lower grades. Good luck to you xx
I was in the same position- always said I’d only put one in but currently on 9DT3DT! Same as you we only had two embryos who were struggling on day 3 so they wanted to put them in. I broke my heart and have been searching for positive stories since . I caved and tested yesterday as all my “symptoms” (bar a terrible headache) has stopped and I got a BFN. Trying to convince myself it’s still way too early for a 3 day transfer but in my head I think I know the answer .
It does happen for some people in our situations ….. crossing my fingers it’s us 🤞🏼
Hi Abloured84 it absolutely can work, fingers crossed you have just tested to soon. From all my research after that fist round it really does just seem random how some people get a BFP with low quality & some people get BFN with embryos that are the best of the bunch. Unfortunately that round didn’t work for us but I am currently 8dp5dt on our 3rd round of ivf with a 4ab embryo & praying that this is our turn 🌈
