Weigh in-help!

Hi all, since meeting my partner 3 years ago I've put on 2.5 stone. We've had 2 miscarriages and 3 chemicals and are about to start ivf process in 2 weeks. I lost 10 pounds for the hospital weigh in last year and my bmi was 30.2. I had planned to lose more weight but then fell pregnant. I've put on 4 pounds since then and have our baseline scan the week commencing 7th June. I believe I will get weighed in again then. That's 4 weeks away. I'm contemplating the fast diet which says you can lose a stone in 3 weeks. Anyone tried this? Anyone weigh in at slightly over 30 for bmi and the NHS refuse to treat you? I do work better under pressure but obviously worried!

I’ve only ever done the Atkins diet, but to be honest these fad diets are not good for you where you loose weight quickly.

What makes you think your going to get weighed? I’ve had three private rounds and only get weighed when going in for egg collection to work out your anaesthetic.

You are much better off eating sensibly, cutting out sugar and carbs - so that’s no chocolate, crisps or snacks like that. Cut out potatoes, rice/pastas, bread. Cut out alcohol as well.

And getting an exercise routine, you don’t need to join a gym but can easily do exercise at home

Hi I have fasted before and the health benefits are great. Also it's the only thing that seems to work for me in the past. I run and exercise regularly and tried slimmingworld but it's like nothing seems to shift. This one I'm thinking of doing is the Michael Moseley one, who is the doctor.

A few people I know who have had ivf on nhs and have been weighed in just before the stims. Maybe it will be at egg retrieval but I think the NHS wouldn't want to give out drugs if you aren't going

Sorry that sent before I finished. I don't think the NHS would give me the drugs if I don't qualify weight wise

Ah right okay. Private rules maybe d as lightly different

Micheal Moseley stuff is good, we have one of his cook books, which I think is the blood sugar diet. Lots of nutritional meals with low calories.

Fasting maybe good at the time but could effect you in years to come, my mum ended up with type 2 diabetes, which I think she said at the time was caused by skipping meals.

Your GP should also be a good source for diet plans. I’ve never done slimmers world, I know people who have and they seem to plié money into it and not shift the weight, so that tells me it’s a fad plan!

You realistically need to be burning more calories then your putting into your body. I’ve used an app called ‘My fitness pal’ which tracks your calories, you can set that to what you want. A healthy woman should have 2000 calories a day, so I set mine to 1700.

Along with longer sustained running on a running machine (as I’ve got knackered lower joints) - high impact stuff like sprinting for instance will not burn half as many calories. If runnings not your thing I do between 1 and 4 miles walking a day

I forgot to add - I’m going on my experience having been a successful county athlete, albeit some years ago now, along with the added advantage, a very good friend of mine was a personal trainer for many years

As far as I was aware, the weigh in is only required for application of funding which is done before you are issued your medication. Everyone I know that has had funded IVF has only ever been weighed once.

I did the Michael Moseley 800 calorie diet to get my bmi down before the funding application, worked really well managed to get it down and stay just under. I was never actually weighed though with the doctors not doing face to face! I had my treatment at a private clinic on the nhs and my weight was never questioned after the initial application form. Hope this helps x

Thanks very much! I'm definitely going to do it I think I need to be as healthy as I can be for this. Plus mentally I feel stronger when I am happy with my weight x

At my nhs clinic you are weighed st the first appointment of each cycle and unfortunately ive seen online lots of women complaining they were just over and were not allowed to proceed. They are told to come back in 3 months time to try again. Slimming world might work if you have not been doing anything like that before and have lots of bad habits to kick but otherwise it might not be enough. Calorie counting might be a better way. Put in how much you want toboose per week to work out calorie deficit then do exercise on top of that to burn more. Do not eat extra calories burned from exercise though. Good luck

Hi yeah I heard that. I've downloaded my fitness pal and am making myself do 5k of walking/running every day. No booze and now no bad foods and fast diet! Thank-you!

I lost weight with slim fast and calorie control but not for ivf my bmi was 34.3 I lost 3 stone got down to 26.8. I lost a stone in 4w was the easiest diet I’ve done I kept the weight off for 8 mths after goal then conceived naturally again. I did exercise a lot too.
