Help please! How many in?

Hi gals,

I have one daughter born on a FET 2 years ago. Since then I’ve had two failed full rounds with 4 embryos left in the freezer. I have vowed no more full rounds as I need closure and I’m feeling more than lucky with my gorgeous girl. I’m 39 next Birthday.

So with my 4 Frosties should I do 1 by 1 in or 2 by 2? Or any other combination. What are your thoughts?

Thanks ladies, wishing everyone on here that your dreams come true xxx

I would suggest 2 at a time, only because my double FET has been successful for me and I'm currently pregnant with 1 baby. I suppose it depends how you feel about the possibility of twins? x

I am 40 and we were advised 1 due to my age and the associated risks with a multiple pregnancy. We only had 3 blastocysts so this was 3 chances at pregnancy as far as we were concerned. Some people will disagree saying twins or multiples is a ready made family, but we decided the risks outweighed the benefits. Plus the health implications for me at my age, and the financial and emotional strain of having a multiple pregnancy and birth. (Which would likely be a surgical birth with a long recovery) We wanted to give one single baby a chance to grow to it’s full potential and have two other chances at a sibling. Our blastocysts were very precious to us so we decided each one deserved an individual chance. Good luck with whatever you decide xx

Did you get pregnant from one of the three? Yes I feel it’s 4 chances of pregnancy. It’s so strange I’ve always felt I’m going to have twins as my dad is a twin. It worries me a bit but not too much esp I think as I already have a baby. On the other hand I need more information on the health implantations. Good luck and all the best wherever you are in your journey xx

We have a 2.5year old from IVF and on our next frozen cycle put 1 in (we had 3 frosties and 2 didn't survive the thaw). It unfortunately ended in a BFN. I was a bit naive thinking as we had 3 frosties we had a good chance but it wasn't to be. I would personally go for 1 at a time as it means more 'chances' at the defrosting process! That said, I don't know your background and if implantation is an issue then I'd try 2. Best of luck. Xx

Congratulations on your 2.5 year old. I’m terrified of unsuccessful thaw. I keep thinking that if I get myself all prepped to have one in then it doesn’t defrost I’d be gutted. Having done loads of ivf now and just had a freeze all cycle (because I had meningitis day before implantation- you can’t make it up) I can’t take that torture. Do you know the statistics of unsuccessful thaw? I might contact my clinic. But this leads me to two in......

If one doesn't thaw properly the clinic should immediately thaw the next one and so on. This is what happened to us. Our clinic is 2hrs drive away so on the morning of FET we got a call to say one hadn't thawed and could they thaw the next, then an hour later the same... Then we got there and the 3rd was ok. I think it's not just the thawing process it's the quality of the embryos that have been thawed too. Our clinic only freezes blastos so we thought we were ok... But not meant to be. Not telling you to scare you, just to share my experience as I wasn't aware. Hope it helps. Xx

I would suggest 2 at a time as well. When I transferred 1 fresh embryo, I got a negative result. After I transferred 2 frozen embryos one of them had stuck and I got bfp. With two embryos you will have more chances for one of them to stick. If you are lucky, it may work out for both of them)) One of my neighbors transferred 3 embryos and all of them had stuck))

Thanks! Congratulations by the way! I’m leaning to two in now after all these wonderful comments. Definitely not three!!!!!! Ha ha xx

Glad to hear. When is your transfer? Do you know that very date?)) Do you have any plan for preparing your body for it? Maybe there are some recommendations from your dr about that.

I am glad for you. Will you have a long protocol or a short one? Or you are going to have a natural cycle? Will be keeping everything crossed for you and waiting for your updates.

Because I am not comfortable at all with the possibility of twins, I would definitely only transfer one. But that’s just me! I am just over 40 so there is no way I could face the risks. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks. I’d be ok I think with twins. I do need to research the risks tho. X

I would ask your clinic about success rates.. know with a fresh cycle you only have a very small (I was told about a 5%) increased chance of pregnancy by putting 2 embryos back compared to 1, but if you do a single fresh transfer and then use the other one later in an FET that gives you a similar chance for each. Does that make sense?! Not sure about for 2x FETs, but just thought I’d mention it so you can check if you want to. Apparently there’s also some evidence out there suggesting putting 2 back might negatively influence implantation of one “good embryo”, but as usual with IVF this is not conclusive/ a cause of debate and clearly doesn’t apply to all! It’s so tough to know what to do, but your clinic may have more info to help you decide. Good luck! ☘️ xx

There is always a risk. The more embryos you transfer the higher risk you'll have. You should really think it over twice and consult the doctor before taking this decision. Good luck with that.
