Clearblue digital ovulation kits - is the test reader reusable?

Hi everyone

I hope you are well.

I am a bit confused as to whether the ovulation test reader is reusable from cycle to cycle, I thought it was but can find anything conclusive online?

If it is reusable why don’t they seem to sale just the refills of the test strips so we don’t have to buy the reader again?

Thanks x

Yea the holder is reusable and actually works better the more you use it

Thanks. Do you know why don’t they sell refills without the reader? Seems a bit silly x

Money I think! 🤣 I’m sure I read somewhere once that it’s the refills which cost the most money not the reader to make I used them for years - I’d hate to think how much money I spent on them ! Even bought the one that connects to an app on your phone 🤦‍♀️

Yes probably is money. I dread to think how much I’ve spent on them also, crazy 🤦‍♀️

If you have sticks left after one cycle, then you can reuse the digital reader with those sticks but not with a new set of sticks from a different box I believe - pretty sure I’ve read that somewhere! X

Really, this was part of my confusion. I thought why can’t you use new sticks from a new box with an old reader - how would it know 🤔 .

Then I came to the conclusion the reader is not reusable and had some sort of memory inside and that’s why I can’t find refill sticks only 🤔

Xx

I tried looking myself and couldn’t find the information again but I’m so sure you can’t reuse them, I remember using them all of the time last summer and thinking the same thing and researched it a bit! It does seem silly though xx

Hey I use this clearblue advanced digital ovulation kit. I've just bought a refill pack and used the same reader from the previous pack. Seems to be working fine. I got the refills from Amazon.

Hey, thanks. Can you buy the refills without a new reader? I’ll have a look on Amazon x

Hang on... I just checked what I've bought and they're actually the refills for the Fertility Monitor, not the Ovulation Test Kit 😳. Although I just used a stick from my initial pack that the reader came with to verify whether the two gave me the same reading, and they did. Seems to work. But I would say don't use me as an example 😬

I always used the sticks with an old reader if I finished a packet and started a new one. My concern was always that the batteries may run out mid cycle and mess everything up! If anything you’d be safer to use old sticks with a new reader xx

Also if you ring the help line they’re always really helpful so you could call them and ask? xx

Yes you’re right I hadn’t thought of the batteries running out..that’s a very good point.

Good idea re help line I think I might give them a call as it’s a bit unclear either way and I want to make sure I’m doing it right I was always throwing the readers away before xx

I like the miracare.com

That gives you a numeric result instead of yes or no and can measure estrogen too.

I have to say the LH peak measure is very reliable but the estrogen I only used few times so not so sure.

I also check if ovulation actually occurred with

proovtest.com

Best,

You can reuse the reader but they don't sell re-fills. So technically you can't reuse. Assume its a money making thing. It's so wasteful of them!

You don't need to use them all up in one cycle so if you only need to use a few then you can make 1 kit last a few cycles.

Good luck in your journey. X

The lady on the helpline said to me that you can use the old reader with new sticks no problem. I think she said up to 3 to 4 cycles. I think the reader gets better the more you use it too. Good luck!
