Fresh Embryo Transfer - low quality Embryo

I’m on my first round of ICSI and I had my fresh transfer this morning, I had 9 eggs, 3 fertilised and 1 made it do day 5. The embryologist gave it a low grade but said that it was growing and had it been implanted later in the day she would have probably been able to give it a slightly higher grade. Anyone experienced similar and had a positive?

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the grading. Grading is a matter of opinion of an embryologist- you could have several embryologist look at the same embryo and they all come up with a slightly different grading.

There have been ladies on here that have had very low grades put back and have gone full term pregnancy

Good luck 👍

I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant after transferring 2 C grade embryos. I was so down after I was given the news on transfer day that 2 low grade embryos were all we had (after starting with 13 fertilised), and convinced myself initially that there was almost no chance it could work.

However, the more I read the more I realised it can (and does!) work. Gradings are really subjective. Also, the clinic would not transfer if there wasn’t a reasonable chance of success - a large part of clinic marketing is based on success rates per transfer.

One of our embryos stuck and at a scan yesterday was looking perfect 😀. I know it’s hard but try to be positive during your 2ww. Thankfully I had implantation bleeding just 7 days after transfer and knew from then it had worked - got my BFP the next day.

Good luck, keep positive and busy!

Hi thetallgirl,Thank you so much for posting, just what I needed to hear. I just had my transfer Saturday just gone. I was given the option to transfer 2 as they were growing slowing, my embryos were not given grading. I walked out after the transfer feeling traumatised with the news from the embryologist and have been down for the past two days, expecting the worse. But thank you for posting and giving me a glimmer of hope.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Xxx

This is exactly how I felt. Honestly, I beat myself up about it for the 3 days after transfer. Then I perked up a bit (mainly after reading positive stories online) and now I am one of those positive stories! Sending you all the sticky vibes. Thanks xx

Hi IMax. I would be encouraged by the fact thatb Your embryo continued to grow. He/she is back where it belongs, inside you, so keeping everything crossed that it likes its new home. Good luck! Diane
