Hi, I wanted to ask you... I got a transvaginal a week ago for heavy painful periods, intermittent pelvic pain between periods...that they refuse to discuss without an appt. Im really scared and wanted to ask is it normal for one ovary to be 3vl and the other 8.6vl? Im only 28. My endometrial thickness was 12mm on the day I was supposed to get menstrual, but it came late by 5 days. I know you arent a doctor but i have no support or anyone to talk to. And the ultrasound images kind of scare me. Here is one photo below

Hi lovely, it’s totally normal for one ovary to be bigger than the other. Every month, each ovary has several follicles developing in it and inevitably one ovary will have more follicles which accounts for its larger volume. (As you get closer to ovulation, one follicle will also become the dominant follicle and be quite a bit larger than the others, which will make that ovary larger.)
I also just had a pelvic ultrasound and one ovary had a volume of 6cm3, while the other had a volume of 15cm3. The sonographer wasn’t worried at all.
So don’t fret. xx
Hi Kcobb. If you are not on any stimualtion medication, then one ovary is often larger than the other, as it is getting ready for ovulation. Once you have stimulation medication, then they should both produces more follicles, although even then one can be a bit resistant and leave the other to do all the work. hopefully there is nothing serious to worry about. Good luck! Diane
