Day 3 Vs Day 5 Transfer - help

Hi All,

Had my 2nd egg collection yesterday and we got 4 eggs. I have a low AMH so this was expected. The clinic called this morning and advised only 1 fertilised, little bit disappointed as we managed to get 3 of out 5 fertilised on the 1st go. The clinic have said they would be happy for me to do a day 3 transfer if I wanted. Just wanted to hear about others experiences with a day 3 transfer? xx

Hello there . I did 2 fresh transfers before also have very low amh first cycle 1 embryo and second cycle 2 and both did not work .. im on my 3rd now and my new RE decided to do frozen , in his opinion studies have shown that frozen has higher success rates because the body is given time to calm from all the meds ... but again i have severe endo and i think he is right by giving my endo time to calm after stims and do a frozen one .. every body is different some get pregnant with fresh snd some with frozen better , i think you should discuss thr best option for you with ur dr . Best of luck

Hi there, can I ask with your two fresh transfers, were they BFN or miscarriage? Sorry to ask that! I had one 3 day fresh transfer which ended up with MMC. I also have a severe endo which dr suggests to go with frozen for the next cycle. But as l have a very low AMH and last time it ended up with only one egg, one embryo, l am concern if l get the same result, the embryo may not survive during the extra freezing and thawing stage.

Hey there . They were bfn , i never had a positive test .. as for the embryo the fertility lab communicated with me their condition on daily basis up to day 5 when they freezed them.. tbh i also have my hand on my heart i might get a call to inform me my embryos did not survive or something but up to day 5 they were dividing good , they did not tell meTheir grades though but they did tell me their division process is good and we will freeze them . I guess the clinic should advise you based on their condition if they will survive freezing or not , best of luck

I havent had a day 3 transfer, but my one that did work and resulted in my gorgeous little boy was a day 2 fresh transfer. Have my fingers crossed for you x

It depends on your protocol really? I did natural modified IVF or short protocol with no down reg so a lot less drugs so I would have been comfortable doing a day 3 as I hadn’t put my body through as much as if I had down a long protocol. I guess you have to weigh up the risk of you wait to day 5 you could end up with nothing to transfer? So what would be worse emotionally? X

Only in my opinion, if it was me I would go for it.. with only one egg it makes sense to have it back in its cosy home and hope for the best.. if you wait until day 5 you may not have anything to transfer xx good luck with whatever you do xx

Hi - I am sorry your second round was disappointing. I also have low AMH. First round got 4 eggs, all 4 fertilised. Had a day 5 fresh transfer which was sadly a BFN but we froze 1 blast on day 6. I started round two with the aim of doing 3 rounds and banking embryos (freezing on day 5). Round two was a disappointment with 2 eggs collected and only one fertilising normally. On day 3 they said the embryo was average quality and they couldn't say whether it would make it to day 5 to be frozen. I was so upset and couldn't handle going through the whole round to have nothing in the freezer or no transfer so I requested a change to a day 3 transfer. The doctor agreed and I went in and had this done. I had very low hopes but that resulted in my first ever BFP. I am 8 weeks pregnant so still a long way to go but the 3 day transfer worked for me. I felt much better having the embryo in my womb where it is meant to be rather than sitting in culture in a lab developing. Sending you lots of luck for whatever decision you make! xx

Thank you all! ☺️ Really appreciate all the advice and made me so much better. I am going to do a day 3 transfer, don't want to risk not having anything to transfer and you never know this could be the one that sticks around. xxx

Sorry to hear this. I also had low amh and out of 8 eggs, only two survived by day 3 but weren’t dividing ideally. So I had a day three transfer, both were put back in. Now I am 28 weeks pregnant. So for me, a day three transfer worked!!
