Day 3 or 5 transfer?

I've just been told that only one of our eggs fertilised and the clinic would like to do a day 3 transfer. I'm so confused on what to do. Any one had success on a day 3? Should I risk it to day 5?

I think if you’ve just got the one you may as well do a day 3 transfer - some embryos do better in their natural environment than in the lab so you could wait to day 5 and end up with nothing to transfer. It is a risk though as you won’t know whether it was even capable of making it to blastocyst but you’ve nothing to lose by just popping it back in x

Hi, I had 3 cycles so far. My first one was day 3 transfer and unfortunately it failed.My current consultant said it's unlikely to be successful if they embryo does not survive outside for 5 days. but there are lots of success stories about day 3 embryo as well.

If i were u I would ask the embryologist what is the chance of surviving up to Day 5, if the chance is slim, then I'd go for transfer on day 3.

Thanks P2021.. I asked and she said the only benefit of a day 5 transfer is for collection process and since I don't have that day 3 would be advisable. My question is that does the position of the embryo is put matter? At day 3, the embryo I'm guessing would not be in the uterus yet? 🤔

When they do the transfer, they will put it in the uterus whichever the day it is. If they to day 5 transfer, the embryo is ready or near ready to implant. For day 3 transfer, they have to do some growing process before implantation. Finger crossed for u xxx

HelloAt my last post consultation my Dr advised if you have a low numbers of eggs to do a 3 day transfer.

Better in natural setting than in a dish in a lab.

But I know it's hard on my first cycle I had two grade 2 embryos transfered on day 5 I still wonder if I had transfered them earlier would they of implanted.

Thanks Hopeful80, my last transfer I did a 3 day transfer and it failed to implant hence my confusion on whether to do another day 3.

100% day 3. That gives you a chance, if you have zero embryos chance is zero. The embryo likes your uterus better than the lab. Good luck!

My docs only do day 3 for few embryos and it works!

Day 3 definitely, I have friends who have got pregnant with day 3 as they never had the choice of day 5 due to the risks of the embryos not surviving. As I understand, leaving to day 5 is useful only if you have larger numbers so that they can select the best. So you still have a great chance xx

This literally happening to me this morning and I had my 3 day transfer at 11:30am.

I had 3 embryos brewing but as one was standing out ‘the best’ they opted for a three day transfer.

I too had concerns as you always read 5 days are ‘better’ but it is what it is. I’m quite positive and putting trust in the clinic and process this afternoon. 🍀🤞✨🙏

I had a day three transfer as only two embryos had survived but they were slow growers (both only 4 cell on day 3, when ideally they are 6 or 8 cell). Both implanted, but only one baby survived. I’m now currently 32 weeks pregnant. In my case, the embryos seemed to thrive being in my uterus. The Ivf science is still not 100%, you just don’t know! Good luck, I hope it works for you x

I planned to do 3 cycles back to back due to my low AMH with the aim to bank and freeze day 5 embryos. The first round was very disappointing and I only had 1 egg fertilise normally. By day 3 they said it was average quality and they weren’t sure it would make it to day 5. I couldn’t risk going through the whole IVF round with nothing at the end so I asked for a last minute day 3 transfer. It ended up working despite our low hopes and I am currently 13 weeks. This is after my day 5 fresh transfer failing the cycle before. So I would definitely go for day 3 transfers if you only have 1 or 2 embryos. Good luck xx
