Melatonin - Is it worth taking this?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has taken melatonin for egg quality and what your thoughts/experiences were?

I struggle with sleep and have done all my life. I typically can only get 4-5 hours during week, then approx 6-7 on the weekend. So I'm wondering if I should ask my doctor for this. I understand its prescription only in the UK but I'm not sure what the downsides are.

Hey! Me too! I take melatonin but I can’t say it helps my egg quality. But then again I am 40. One cycle I used it I had total fertilisation failure. On the other cycle 100% fertilisation and 50% of my embryos making it to day 5! So it’s hard to tell if it works or not. I do taus it every other day

Interesting. Did you use melatonin for both egg cycles or only the one with total fertilisation failure?

Congrats on the successful embryos!

I took it and openly it didnt make a blind bit of difference!

I also then read somewhere it can then mess up your natural melatonin levels which can then mess up your natural cycle too! So I ditched it! You can buy it online on various websites you don't necessarily need a prescription. Its low dosage for egg quality (1mg or 3mg)

However I do have some stronger melatonin I bought in the States I sometimes use if I am in a real routine of not sleeping well and a couple of nights in a row will really help.. but its not recommended long term x

I didnt know that it could mess with your natural cycle. But then again, my natural cycle is already messed up. I am leaning against taking it though, I already take so many supplements.

I got to the point where I was on Melatonin, DHEA, Fish Oil, Magnesium, Vitamin D, Pregnacare and Ubiqinol!! The DHEA gave me terrible side effects. The only thing which may have made a small difference was the ubiquinol but not enough to be successful so Ive stopped that. I stay on the fish oil and magnesium as they make me feel better in myself and vit D is useful in the winter and against covid so stay on that too. My consultant told me unless you have an imbalance not many of these things actually have been proven to make a difference but obviously some people on here have had good results so its always tempting to throw everything at it just in case it works for you x
