Ivf Abroad - what is the process (is it really worth it)

Hi all

I appreciate we cant name any clinics but i cant find anything specific around the process of doing ivf abroad.

I wonder if im anxious for no reason. And educating myself might make me take the step.

I guess what i want to know is

- where do you start

- where do you do your baseline scans

- where do you do your injections

- do you fly out only for EC and ET?

- where do you do your follow up scans etc

- do clinics work with uk clinics to facilitate some of the steps?

Thanks!

M

Hi Mimi

I have experiance with donor eggs abroad but the processes are similar but obviously with donor eggs slightly more straight forward.

- where do you start

your best start would be to first ask around on ivf abroad pages on social media and then once you’ve done that and you have a few ideas you can also join their support groups the girls/couples in these groups can be really helpful in helping you to make a decision going forward also read online reviews as well. Also a lot of abroad clinics offer a free Skype consultation after some initial bloods and tests being done so they can give you a detailed consultation , we did this with the clinic we were really interested in and it was very helpful in making a final decision.

- where do you do your baseline scans

Your baseline scans can be done in the country you live in I did mine in London but these can be done at the clinic abroad also it must means your time there will be longer than if you did the testing in your home country first , if you can spare the time to do the whole cycle abroad this will cut down some costs to as most clinics the scans will be included in the price it’s just the bloods and some other stuff you may pay extra for.

- where do you do your injections

You would start your injections in the U.K. if you started the cycle in the U.K. if you didn’t and chose to do whole thing abroad then you would start them there.

- do you fly out only for EC and ET?

As above if you choose to do the testing in your home country first then you’d only fly out for a few scans before egg collection and then stay to transfer unless you couldn’t transfer for some reason that cycle. (OHSS or something that stopped a transfer going ahead)

- where do you do your follow up scans etc

Follow up scans were done either privately in the U.K. (when pregnant) or nhs/epu

- do clinics work with uk clinics to facilitate some of the steps?

Depending on the clinic some have places they recommend but it depends where you live and if this is applicable for example I lived in London and my clinic recommended a place in London to get the scans/bloods done so I just used them however some people will use medicheck or ultrasound direct if that’s nearer to where they live.

I will PM you the clinic we used & their support group details , we were very happy with them and they were fantastic from start to finish we now have twin boys 18m old and couldn’t thank them enough for everything they done.

If you have any other question you can always PM back.

Hope that helps a little.

X

Hi treezuk, we have sperm frozen here... would you know if that would be viable with a clinic abroad? x

I am not sure you’d have to speak with a chosen clinic abroad I know that some send it over via courier but I think that can be quite pricey - my husband flew out and left the sample to freeze before our cycle so we didn’t have to worry about that.

Thank you so much for taking the time. It soes feel doable doesnt it. Its a bit of a relief but on the otherhand i live in the northwest and wonder if it will be easy to find a place that does the pre scans etc but worth looking in to it. Xxx

There is girls on the support group that I gave you the details to that have used scanning/blood places in the north west so they’d be able to point you in the right direction defiantly.

I am also in the North West Mimisami and have been abroad for IVF which was so much cheaper and definitely doable. I remember you writing to me while I was out in the Czech Repubic. Smiley face emoji (where are they!!??) See my most recent post for my own personal round up but please PM me for advice on local clinics and what I learnt. If money is tight I recommend it but choose your clinic from personal recommendation if possible and build a rapport before hand to prepare yourself and make contact with your consultant.

in reply toFlorencehill

Thank Florance. I read your last post and that is why i think i need more stories before embarking abroad. I will do one more round here and then if i find enough recommendations consider abroad. I hope your new clinic and protocol is the one for you. Keep us posted xx

We also decided to go abroad after 2 failed cycles in U.K. I like our clinic in Spain because I can see they always try to improve things, they are working with you and are always flexible (adjusting with our needs). Just imagine that just few days before starting my stim cycle I called them requesting to postpone my egg collection and my stim cycle because my husband had Covid. They didn’t complain one second and resent my medication plan.

The only inconvenient now with IVF abroad is Covid restriction and self isolation on return 😤😡🤬🤯

Apart from that I have no problems.

Consultations are online, baseline scan I am doing them in UK, usually 1 scan per cycle. Medications I am ordering from Spain as well because are cheaper there. Our clinic is working with another clinic in London but I don’t want to use their services because are more expensive and I need to drive 2h to London.

I have FET booked this month, I will fly - transfer my embryo and return on the same day. For a good clinic I will go anywhere in the world 😁😂

If you have more questions please feel free to ask me ❤️🤗

Such great tips Ranchu thank you. You are so strong to have done this and clinic sounds lovely. I hope your fet goes well. Depending on covid i might come back to you in the new year for more questions abt spain if thats oke haha. Xx

Please ask, I will be more than happy to help you, I know how important it is to have all these info before taking the final decision. I am getting stressed with the transfer 😃, that is crazy. I waited for so long (since January) and now I am s*..... in my pants 😂🤣

I'm in the process of going abroad after three crap cycles here.

I'm going with newlife Greece who have been super professional.

I had my bloods done in TDL London (you get referred by newlife)

Sent them all medical notes from previous cycles

Had my consultation with them

My meds are a million times cheaper than the UK!!! (even though they're still from stork)

You stim here...

I'm having my scans done with ultrasound direct on days baseline, 5 and 7 and then fly out on day 8

Theres a fb group for newlife

They want me to do a sort of mine ivf cycle due to my high amh, my partner have tese and then freeze all. Also pgs test if provided I get over three embryos. Unlikely given our history. These are all things my UK clinic refused to consider so I'm off!

I haven't started stims yet but happy to answer any questions. Xx
