Ovaleap Question

Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with ovaleap? Today I did my first injection set the pen to my dose but the pen did not reset to 0. I think what I have done is had the pen set to 12.5 and not 0 before I used this. Spoke to my nurse and she said to let her know if the same happens tomorrow. I am just panicking!

I managed to waste 12.5 of mine by "trying it out" first, unaware that the clinic had sent me an exact amount. It didn't make any difference in the end. Just keep an eye on it tomorrow like the clinic says. Fingers crossed x

Hi ZoeLauren, don't panic! I used Ovaleap and f* up the first injection too. For some reason I didn't anticipate quite how much force or pressure it required to push the med through the syringe and I under-dosed a small amount. My clinic said since it was the first injection it didn't make a difference and I was actually so relieved it happened at the start so I could get it spot on every time after that 🙂 you defo done the right thing ringing your clinic. You've got this 💪everything will be grand. Xx

Hi LizzieBW how much force do you have to push? Just so I get it right tomorrow! I have been so upset today! How did you find ovaleap overall? X

Erm...gosh that's a tricky one to answer. It does take a little more pressure than I imagined but I found that slow and firm worked best. Don't worry if it gets a wee glide on and then stalls & feels like it's resisting, just keep the pressure consistent on the end until it all goes in. Honestly, you'll get the hang of it asap and then it'll feel like a skoosh. I ended up on 2 lots of stims but other than a noticeable crash in energy and a mild headache around 8pm ish I didn't have any other side effects. Bloating started around...day 5ish I think and levelled off around day 9 and mild cramps too. Every woman & cycle is different though I hear so you may not get anh of the same side effects 🙂 xx

Thank you so much! So just keep the pressure on the end of the pen? Think that’s where I went wrong today and I didn’t have it on zero to begin with! I feel so silly. My stomach feels a tad sore already and I don’t even think I had the correct dose! X you

Yep, just keep the pressure on with your finger and it will give way after a few seconds (sometimes feels like ages whilst you're panicking it's not moving). Also - I found that I could access "teach" videos on YouTube which were brill for reassurance. I found this for my other injection and wished I'd looked for the first one so just google Ovaleap how to use or ovaleap pen instructions and it should come up step-by-step 🙂 xx

Thank you so much! Do you have to set the pen to 12.5 every time to get air out of the syringe? Xx

It depends on what your pen looks like but most need to be primed by setting it to 12.5 first, yep and then clicking the big button down so you'll see a small amount of med shoot out the end. This is just ensuring the needle is ready and it's not wasting any of the med, don't worry. You then hold it with needle pointing up and flick the side of the syringe til the small bubbles float. To be honest they float back around when you tip the pen to use it anyway so don't get too stressed or focused on this. Honestly, YouTube! You'll feel so much better watching the video of it too xx

I’m sure I had it set to 12.5 today that’s what I don’t understand and it didn’t go back to 0! I will have a look at some videos xx

LizzieBW profile image
LizzieBW in reply to ZoeLauren90

It sounds like you maybe didn't prime it but it could just have been a really unfortunate/faulty dial as a one-off. I am no expert 😅 if you still feel anxious about getting it right after checking YT vids then if I were you I'd ring the nurses at your clinic and ask for them to talk you through the steps again. Good luck 🙂 xx

I know what I did! I didn’t prime it correctly! I’m scared if I press the button it will release all of the injection! X

Also did you do your injection same time each day? Xx

LizzieBW profile image
LizzieBW in reply to ZoeLauren90

Priming is set up specifically so that it shoots out an "excess" that the manufacturer has accounted for so the dose that will be left is exactly what you've set on the dial i.e. 12.5. 1 of my pens you prime then turn to the dosage amount and my ovaleap pen you set it to the amount then prime from the middle button on the pen. If you're still anxious defo, defo call your clinic. From my experience the fertility nurses really want to help to make you feel calm and confident with your cycle. Xx

Thank you! I’ve read the instructions with my ovaleap pen and it says to set the pen to 12.5 prime it and then the pen shows 0 in the window then you set the dose xx

I used overleap this round of IVF and I must admit when I walked out the hospital door all the instructions vanished from my head.

There’s a couple of YouTube videos that you can watch on administering the pen and there really good. My first injection was a bit of a calamity but in the end it worked out and I had better success this cycle than I did with menopur.

Like all the other ladies say try not to panic and wishing you lots of luck! ❤️

Looks like I had the full dose today but not yesterday as there was some left in my cartridge! I hope I haven’t messed it up too much x

It’s good that you are aware of the missed dosage this early. They’ll now be able to adjust your dosage based on how much you would have missed. YouTube videos are really helpful.

All the best!

I will say the same as the others. I used bemfola and then ovaleap for my IUIs. I messed up the first dosis of ovaleap (actually the nurse did not applied it... she showed me how to do it and applied the first and she and I thought it was ok... but it was not. The pen was reseting but no liquid came out. It was a problem with the assembly... the plunger was not touching the vial. I went home thinking all was fine and then I noticed the second day when I applied it myself). So we ended up missing the first dose. After that all was fine. Once you figure it out is looots easier than bemfola and that menopur (which I take for IVF). Less painful too and they told me in the hospital that it was ok and no issue came out because of the missed dosis.

That is good to know thank you! Looks like I only had some of my dose yesterday

Sometimes the vials have a bit extra, for you to test it/take out the air... could this be the reason? (I noticed this in the instructional videos for UK and Germany).

And well, also, when it happened to me i was so nervous. I felt very bad like the most silly person in the world ("why did I not notice?")... but I think that it made me feel better that it was the nurse showing it to me that had a mistake. They have lots of experience, they are very professional, and sometimes even them can get it wrong. And not necessarily this leads to something terrible. Maybe it is ridiculous, but it made feel less pressured. We do our best, but small mistakes (even if we fight to avoid them) can happen when you try something new. I hope it goes well for you.

Hi there! Quick question on this, I have used the ovaleap twice now but neither time did I re set it to 0 so does this mean I haven’t had my full 375 dose each day? Also really stupid question but does 900 mean I have 900ml or is it 1500 as the bottle also says?! Don’t worry if you guys don’t know, I’m just having classic melt down!! Xx

I’m using ovaleap and worried I’ve not used it properly set to 0 but when I pressed the level it clicked to 100 then 25 then 0 so slowly does that mean it’s worked :/
