I just got my TSH results last night after a BFP (took a week from the GP!) My level was 3.84. I’m totally freaking out as this is the highest it’s been in about 4 years and when the doctor left a message, he said that was normal and wouldn’t prescribe additional meds. Last time I was pregnant I was put on a higher dose of levothyroxine immediately. I think I should still be under 2.5. I’ve started taking the higher dose anyway as had meds left over from last time I was pregnant.
Thoughts/ experiences please? 🙏

I got told my the midwife previously that as soon as I was pregnant to start taking an extra 25 per day so that's what I did last time and this time.....GP's are a bugger when it comes to thyroid medicating for pregnancy or getting pregnant. When my levels were checked around 12wks they were a little low but they said better that so I would do what you are in your situation. Does your clinic have any thoughts, they would possibly support you in getting your levels down, maybe even give a letter to your GP to help get meds? Or mention it when you see EPAS.xx
Yes they are a total bugger! I had this last time too. I’ve emailed my clinic this morning to ask them what to do and they are speaking to my specialist. Worse case I can probably get it prescribed from EPU which is where I got it from initially many years ago! I’m just so worried that I’ve done some damage in the meantime as it took over a week to get the results back from the GP! Xx
No, don't worry about that lovely and plenty of time to rectify this as although your results are a little higher than liked they aren't through the roof.....don't panic!! Hope you get something sorted, I swear GP's sometimes cause more stress than anything.xx
Im on the same boat hun, I need monthly TSH check ups to adjust my meds to keep levels low...GP didn’t want to write me a blood form (because they say it’s my clinic that should do it, but my clinic is in Russia lol) ...so I’ve spoken with my midwife and she referred me to see a consultant endocrinologist who will then request the monthly checks for me (up until now I’ve done them privately, it’s one blood test that costs £45 but have results the day after).Id say ask your midwife if GP is not cooperating! 🤞🏻🍀❤️Xx
It’s so flipping annoying isn’t it. I had the same battle with my GP for my last pregnancy which I lost, having already lost a pregnancy previously and they just don’t seem to care! I will definitely get help from my clinic or hospital or both! Good luck hun xx
Same here, lost my previous pregnancy and they surely don’t care...they didn’t even want to prescribe me aspirin! Had to ask tie midwife to send them a letter! Thanks hun, hope you get this sorted out soon but don’t worry it will get sorted! Xx
Hey lovely, I totally understand your fears! I got mine checked and they were 6.3. Never had anything that high before and haven't been on thyroid meds. My Dr prescribed 50mg, but said that it's normal in early pregnancy for thyroid to go high as our bodies are working at a higher metabolic rate. At this stage it's very early and you won't do any damage, esp as you've caught it early. I think you need more support though, can your clinic or EPU refer you to an endocrinologist? My GP has now automatically put me under the care of one as I'm seen as having thyroid related issues. I'm having another blood test in 4 weeks to monitor my TSH. This should be taken more seriously by your GP! I'm sorry you have to rely on clinic and EPU. Don't let it go and definitely kick up a fuss so you're monitored explaining your previous MCs and you don't want to take any chances xxx
Hey there, thanks so much for your response and glad you’ve sorted yourself out. Yes my clinic are very supportive and I’m waiting to hear back on what they think and I’m seeing the EPU tomorrow. Last year my GP got advice from an endocrinologist for me but apparently they are not doing that this year!! I will definitely be following this up but I do at least have meds that I can take in the meantime to tide me over. Thanks lovely xx
Hi hun, sorry to hear your GP are such a pain about increasing your meds! What a nightmare - definitely get your results over to your clinic and ask them to prescribe the updated dose to you.
They should also be able to get a letter over to your GP to confirm your new dose. Good luck hun xx
Let me know how you get on! If it helps, when I had my thyroid tested last month, it was 3.22 and I was about 5 weeks pregnant (and didn’t know!) and my dose was increased and when it was tested last week it was back to 1.28 and little bean was completely fine! Xx
Yes, thank you. That makes me feel a lot better!! I’ve upped my dose of my own accord for now so hopefully it will come down quite quickly. Just need to get a medical professional to support me! 🤦♀️ Thanks lovely xx
