Because of our ‘shocking’ results (dr doesn’t help with her choice of words) - ie 5 rounds of IVF/ICSI where we’ve had huge drop offs in embryo development, our dr has advised chromosome karyotype testing. She can’t explain our results otherwise. So as far as I can see, if we have the tests and they show up that one or both of us has an issue, then it’s probably the end of our dream of having kids with our own dna. And if they can’t find a problem, we just keep trying with extremely low chances of it working for us. Neither of these options sounds good to me! I never thought I’d find myself in such a horrible position, but I know that no one on here expected that either. It just seems to get harder, not easier. Feeling very depressed
Anyone had chromosome karyotype testi... - Fertility Network UK
Anyone had chromosome karyotype testing and was it useful?
Sorry lovely, please stay strong. We did karyotype testing after 5 rounds too, it wasn’t so much drop off but was overall really poor quality of embryos.
Our karyotype tests showed nothing, that we were genetically normal, so it did kind of tell us it’s either poor eggs or sperm or both. Turns out it was my eggs more than likely. Can you maybe have those tests on the nhs? I think you might be able to get referral after multiple failed ivfs, not just miscarriages.
Has your partner had dna fragmentation tests?x
Yes, we’ve had the comet test - twice. And it’s nothing to worry about. What did you do after the karyotype testing? Did you keep trying? X
Well this is what is interesting - our comet tests were “fine” but we did more in depth testing with locus Medicus in Greece (postal swabs and samples) which identified E. coli in my hubby’s sperm and they said the fragmentation results weren’t great (different to the comet test!).
Ultimate we gave up and I moved to donor eggs which still didn’t work but my hubby did everything he could to have great sperm samples for another donor round (no alcohol or caffeine for 3 months and ridiculous supplements) and we have swapped to surrogacy and now 15 weeks pregnant. So I’m not a great example of karyotype tests, but definitely a story of not to give up!!!
I would highly recommend a free telephone consultation with locus Medicus, you can choose whether or not to have any tests that the recommend. The doctor is so detailed I got an hour long consultation asking me all sorts!x
Sorry I just read that you have done the fragmentation test, we had them but I don’t know what is good or bad, did the consultant say they were happy with those results?
Hi. We had those two.. it doesn’t really explain anything for us. We are both chromosomal normal. But we just can’t make any embryos. We did the comet test too but we saw Dr Ramsay to explain it. He did do further tests on the sperm and in our case it is what it is. My husband is 43. I am 40. I think it’s my eggs. 3 cycles and no blastocysts...it’s got to be my egg quality. Wishing you all the best!
