Hi

Is anyone here having treatment abroad? What is the situation in regards to travel for embryo transfer?

Thanks xx

I'm considering having a fresh round in Greece and was told I would need paperwork stating that I was travelling for medical reasons. That was a couple of months ago when Greece was in Lockdown but we weren't though. I'm 44 now so keen to go. Its a tough one. Wishing you all the best. xx

Thank you. It is a tricky one isn't it. In normal times we would just have the financial cost consideration. But in these times it is so much more. My frozen embryos are in Spain, in Barcelona. I am just so unsure about travelling and potentially inadvertantly carrying to or bringing back covid. I was hoping by now things would be more normal. Do I wait a few months or do I go for it now? So hard. I too am 44 but this would be for a sibling for my wee boy who came from the same route. Wishing you all the best and thank you for replying xx

I'm also wanting to try for a sibling for our little boy. I honestly thought Covid would be gone by now so am kicking myself for not going last year. Hindsight eh! I hope you get out to Barcelona before too long and are successful with your embryo transfer. xx

in reply to

You too. Just feel so lucky that we went through all the initial ups and downs a few years ago. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be trying for no.1 just now. X

I can't imagine that either. I found it stressful enough without Covid in the picture. My heart breaks for those people who are needing to get abroad in the hope of getting their first little miracles. xx

Hi just seen your post , we have been waiting to go a Greek clinic since December... we are booking flights for May today ! I’m also 44 & will be having DE after failed ivf .. pm me if I can help with navigating any of this xx

Thank you. I think we have decided to wait. In my head we will be going to Spain in October. If we manage before then - amazing. But we have Angus and I don't want to cause any issues for anyone. Hope all goes well for you. Greece is amazing xxx

Hi there. Good to hear you're going to try for a sibling! I'm desperate to get back over to Barcelona for another transfer. Unfortunately I had a mmc last August, which for one reason and another wasn't resolved until December. I'd really hoped to be back there back end of 2020, and then hoping for late Feb (have booked leave just in case), but feeling doubtful. Barcelona IVF will issue a letter re medical reasons, but I'm not sure if more paperwork is needed this end other than the tests and trace. I feel ok about travelling due to the testing. The clinic offers the PCR test which makes it easier. Due to quarantine I might have to go alone as my husband won't be able to stay off work afterwards. I work from home, so can manage it. I think he'd prefer we wait until after April, but also at 44, I don't feel I can wait any longer, but at the same time, think we really need to be together. Plus due to covid I can't request to talk to a gp that's been helping us, and have just had a request for microgynon turned down by another gp. Have had to fork out nearly £40 for a private delivery! I've said it before, but it's like the whole universe is working against us isn't it? Xx

Absolutely. I really do think there is so much uncertainty. I am sure if we are actually able to get on a plane at some point it will be full of individual people heading towards ivf clinics! Xx

Perhaps we all should charter a flight?! X

Order Mycrogynon online, this what I did last time and I payed 18£ for medication (enough for 3 months) with no prescription. I actually had no idea that you need a prescription to get the pills 😀.

Hello lovely, nice to see you back on here. Hope all is well with your little Angus? (It is Angus right?!)

Some good friends were due to do a transfer 2 weeks ago in Spain and they had to cancel because of the current situation. Flights kept cancelling at the last minute but also they were told some patients weren’t being let out of the airport and had to fly home again despite having medical certs from their clinic. This is being kept out of the news! They got all this info from their clinic though who were very honest with them. Probably a good idea to check in with them and/ or your coordinator if you have one to check local news. I suspect/ hope this situation will change week on week so definitely worth finding out. Good luck and sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Xx

Thank you. That is really good to know. I have kind of been on a holding pattern since October. Maybe in a couple of months things will start to look better.Angus is amazing thank you. A total wee star getting us through all this weird time with his antics. Xx

We can only travel to Spain by car, I also had transfer booked for Feb initially but now we moved to March as we are having some tests done in the meantime so waiting for results before moving to transfer. We will have paperwork from our clinic in Spain that we are traveling for medical reasons, PCR and good pray before leaving. This is our plan for the moment, let's hope the situation will not worsen 🤞😁

It seems so silly that we can only get there by car. Going through many other countries to get there. Crazy. I hope we all get there soon. X

Good to see your name come up. I’m in the same boat. Had planned to head back to Barcelona in March and spend Luna’s birthday there and have a quick FET too! Decided to delay until later in the year so I can lose my lockdown weight and also I’m due my second covid vaccine in March. Feeling a bit stressed about it again as looking at the cost and faff of getting all the blood tests done. Brings all those horrible memories back. Also don’t really want to have to go on my own or have to isolate there or here. Doesn’t help that loads of my antenatal friends are pregnant or have had their second. I’m 45 so don’t have forever to wait. X

44 here. Maybe we could arrange some kind of Barcelona "here on our own" scheduling so we at least have someone there we know when we do go. I almost went in October but delayed due to a couple of things. Now I wish I had been. Almost. I really am in two minds. Hopefully we see some easing of infections and limitations in the next couple of months. How are you? Where in the world are you now? Have you settled?

We weren't in the position to go earlier. To say its been a difficult transition to life back in the UK is a slight understatement! It doesn't seem so bad going for just the transfer cos at least its not the first time but I wouldn't want to have to isolate there for days on my own. We are now down in Cornwall after living in Sheffield for 6 months. Got offered a job here and lockdown by the beach is infinitely better than in a small terraced house up north. We don't feel settled though. Moved back for friends and family and haven't been able to see them. We would have had a normal life if we had stayed in NZ. Luna has just started nursery so at least she is now mixing with other people. We felt it was worth the risk and infection rates are slightly lower here. How have you coped with this weird year?

in reply toMantaray75

Really difficult for you especially. After coming back to the UK when you did. At least hope is around the corner. Looks like a few months at least before international travel allowed. So, health kick it is! Big hugs to you x
