So I went for my embryo transfer today, which all went ok but what I was surprised with was they didn’t use trans vaginal ultrasound scan to see where the embryo is placed is that normal? Because where ever I see a video or read they see the embryo go in via the scan. How do they know it’s in the right place now this thought is making me panic.
anyone one with the same experience? Thank you

Hi. I've had 3 embryo transfers. 2 were with a transvaginal ultrasound where you get to see the little flash on the screen when the embryo is placed but one of them was done with what they called a Wallace catheter where they didn't. She explained that its just a different method and has the same percentage of positive results. Maybe have a look online about the different methods and how the Wallace catheter works. Hope this helps. Lots of luck with your transfer xxx
Hi all the best of luck with your transfer! , I hope everything has gone well , on my previous transfer they used a scan but it wasn’t a transvaginal one, they asked me to have half full bladder , and they had a monitor as they performed the transfer, it lasted like 15 minutes. Don’t panic though it may just be that every clinic does things slightly different, you should ask them to explain you this to reassure you , all the best of luck x
I've had a mix of transfers with and without scans. Withiut scans, they used the measurements off a previous scan to work out the length of catheter and how far in to place the embyo. To put your mind at rest, I've had BFPs with both scans and non scans
For all my IUIs and transfers (I’ve had many) it’s a stomach scan with a full bladder…. I actually dont know how they could physically do a trans vaginal scan if they have the catheter and clamp etc up there? maybe I am being thick here 🤔 😂. They have always been able to see where they are putting it and show us the flash of the liquid going in xx
Ah I see! I think cos you’ve said transvaginal in your post people replying are thinking the same as me, you got a belly scan. I’m not sure how they would know where it’s went if they done no scan at all but if they have good success rates at the clinic they must know what they are doing 🤗 xx
I spoke to the clinic yesterday and they said that they use clinical touch method and that it doesn’t effect the success rate, I don’t really know what to think now but I just have to trust them hopefully I get my BFP soon x thanks you your message xx
I don’t think they ever do transvaginal scan for transfer as they need to put the embryo in that way! I’ve always had the abdominal scan with a full bladder- they do this to see that it’s going in the right place. Though the last time my bladder was so full they couldn’t push the scanner too hard so ended up not seeing the flash on the screen etc and I was worried but that was the one that worked!
All of mine have been without any type of scan, we had a single embryo stick and then a double transfer where both of them stuck - again without any scans. Don’t worry!! X
