Crawling into a hole for a bit.

So I had my EC today. Only 1 follicle retrieved which was what they have been preparing me. This afternoon, the embryologist rang to say my embryo was far too delicate and as soon as they injected the sperm it deteriorated. Has anyone had this before and had a different outcome next round?

4th round gone just like that. Not sure what else to do differently when I attempt the 5th round. Feels like I am running after a moving target.

I will pick myself up at some point but oh my..what a battle! Just thought I'd throw myself a pity party and mourn my failure for a tad.๐Ÿ˜ญ

I am very sorry to hear the news. Have you considered something that is called โ€œ natural or modified Ivfโ€? It is for women with low ovary reserve, or over 40. They focus more on the quality of the egg than the quantity.

My friend got pregnant through this method after few rounds on normal IVF.

Also read some doctors recommend to take DHEA and CQ10. Something you could ask

Have you tried acupuncture? And warm oil on the low belly? Apare fly all that works

Donโ€™t feel defeated, big hugs xx

Thank you so much for replying. I am actually doing mild ivf for this round. Being almost 40 with low ovarian reserves, they thought this would be the next best course. It's very encouraging to hear that your friend was successful with that method.. definitely gives me hope :)With regard to suppliments, I am on pre-concept. pills, vit D, dhea, coq10, Nac, omega 3 and a few others.. ๐Ÿ™ˆ Maybe that's too many or not (?)... I 'll have to re-evaluate.

I do acupuncture weekly but haven't tried the oil. That's interesting, I shall read up on that.

The oil I was reading is normal castor oil, apparently it helps with the blood fluid. Also the natural/modified Ivf is cheaper too. My friend had to stop the DHEA on this treatment. She was still on CQ10 and preconceptions vitamins.

Also her acupuncturist recommended her to touch with her right hand her heart and the left hand massage in the low belly ( as blood pumps from the heart and also energy fluids ), she didnโ€™t say about the oil. I read that myself ( and not after transfer)but every little helps I would say!

Slight error.. I am doing Mild Ivf as opposed to Natural..I googled and read about Castor oil too. Sounds promising.. no harm trying this for sure. I do intend on stopping DHEA. I was recently advised by one of the top consultants that they have done a study and concluded DHEA has no effect on improving my chances of success. Your friend's acupuncturist's advice makes sense too. Thank you so so much for the tips. I am taking notes on all this.

Sorry to butt in does one of your supplements include "alpha lipoic acid"? That's supposed to help with egg quality as well as the others your taking. I really hope things work out for you on your next round ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ˜˜

I just briefly read about ALA and can't believe I missed this. Thank you so much for suggesting this. I shall look into adding this to my concoction of suppliments :)Dxx

In case it his helpful, I had this during 1/5 rounds with 7/9 eggs "disintegrating" when they pried ICSI. Only happened one round. Pretty sure mine was due to overmaturity, as they had me trigger 4 days after my largest 2 were 18mm. A second opinion suggested that you see this consistently across all rounds if it isn't due to protocol - i.e. due to egg quality. Us older women often go from fine to over mature quickly.

Could that have happened to you?

(One of my twins is from that round BTW, giving more support to hypothesis it was protocol driven injury to eggs.)

Best of luck with your journey take some time to grieve and lick wounds. I was totally devastated when I got the call and was told the "news."

Danascha in reply to Jumpppy

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It means alot to me to read that and gives me hope. In this PICSI round of mine, they decided to do the trigger shot 35hrs before EC instead of the normal 36. This is the first I have heard of my embryo being too delicate. The closest I got to success was in round 2 where they got 3 follicles and 1 made it to ET but didnt last the 2ww as my period came on a day before the OTD.

Deep breaths for now I guess.. ๐Ÿ˜

So sorry! But wondering why your clinic didnโ€™t just cancel your cycle knowing that they saw it wasnโ€™t looking g good in advance?!?

Danascha profile image
Danascha in reply to Msze

That's a good point. I didn't think to ask this as they did another scan to ensure the embryo is still there before they put me to sleep that morning. I shall ask this in our next review.

So sorry to hear this Dana..please spend sometime to pamper yourself, you have been through a lot. I also wanted to say I have had immature egg issue on 2 rounds of ICSI. I also have low ovarian reserve. I am now doing another round and the doctor is doing a microflare protocol due to all my issues. I am still on it but just wondered if is something you might want to discuss with your doctor.

Danascha profile image
Danascha in reply to Ownyee

Thank you for sharing this. I have not heard of microflare and had to look it up. Sounds promising for poor responders like me. I know I have high NK cells which is currently being treated separately with another clinic.I shall include this in my list of questions in my next review.

Hey lovely, Iโ€™m so sorry to hear you are going through this. You have been through so much. I had a similar cycle where I only had one follicle growing. I went to collection and was told there was nothing to collect. It was devastating. The cycle that followed I managed to get 5 follicles all containing eggs so please do give up hopexx.

That was uplifting to read, thanks! May I ask what you and your clinic did differently to yield 5 embyos?D xx

Miracle43 in reply to Danascha

I still did a short protocol, I used Testogel 4 weeks before I started stims, changed from Menopur to Meriofert and Fostimon. Iโ€™m still trying for my ๐ŸŒˆ. However to go from nothing to 5 that all fertilised and got to day 5 was such a huge improvement.

You will get there. Just take each day xx

Ooh thank you. I am going to ask the Drs if this is something to consider. 5 embryos would be a dream come true for me. Thank you so much for this!

Im so sorry to hear ukh its a tuff road but each cycle is different and u can get different outcome. For me when i had many cycles with bad embryos but doing a natural cycle changed my outcome and had best embryos that ended up in live birth .

I also read the book it starts with the egg and that helped me so much with the egg quality.trying for baby nr 2 I got amazing results after taking supplements and doing things recomended in the book unfortunately didnt get pregnant cos i developed ademyosis lately but thats a different story lol there is always sthg going on in our bodies ๐Ÿ˜‚

im 36 extremely low amh ademyosis and endometriosis. It can still happen and get better just hand in there and dont give up and be assured that even though this cycle u got a certain result the next might be different

Danascha profile image
Danascha in reply to Chantysal

Thank you so much for sharing. Truly, means alot to me. Good to know people can still get good results for natural cycles at least. I have downloaded the audiobook for It Starts With The Egg. I will have a listen๐Ÿ™‚

I am sorry to hear about your ademyosis and endo.

5 years ago, I was told I had endo but no one seems to raise this anymore so I assume it might be a non-issue now but my crappy amh is still an issue. Urgh.. sometimes I feel the route of IVF is like opening a can of worms but I'll need to climb out of this hole and march on soon.

Hi Chantysal, what did your dr. suggest for adenomyosis?

Chantysal profile image
Chantysal in reply to Mta209

I have take a decapeptyl shot and after 4 weeks another then 15 days after second shot will see him and start my treatment. Are u also diagnosed with ademyosis?

Mta209 profile image
Mta209 in reply to Chantysal

Yes, l went for a second opinion after an MMC in week 6 due to SCH. Dr. diagnosed l have adenomyosis. She advised l should go for a frozen transfer next time after having a few months of down regulation between egg collection and transfer. She suggested no treatment for adenomyosis before ivf treatment due to very low AMH (1.6).

Thats interesting i have low ahm too 2.5 thats a different protocol then my doctor. Ahhh I hope our next cycle is successful i got everything crossed for both of us

Danascha im sorry what your going through but don't give up. It can happen for you! I got pregnant when I used Testosteron patches 3 weeks before my ivf cycle. Plus it gave me an amazing mood ๐Ÿ˜Š happy hormones. I used the Testosteron on my arms. I have low ovarian reserve. Like super low and 37. Wish you good luck ๐Ÿ’•

Danascha in reply to Butterfly83000

Amazing. I came across an article about those patches earlier this afternoon. I am definitely up for those happy hormones. They gave me Clomid prior to my stims and the whole thing makes me hormonal and weepy. Thank you so much for sharing this. I shall ask them to consider this for me too.

I used clomid for the first 5 days and pergoveris injection. But some follicles dissaperared and we cancelled as we only had 2 follicles. So we thought it's a wasted cycle and we try natural instead of EC and got pregnant! See you never know. Best of luck and enjoy the happy hormones:) I did regularly sport as well just to be happy and sane. Xxx
