Just had my treatment plan along with counseling, feeling a tad down, found out my husband Sperm count has gone down to 10 million from 20 million.. feel a tad angry! Anyone had icsi on here with low sperm counts? Due to start injections next week. Feeling really negative! Feel like we could be trying for awhile! Xxx

I had ivf not icsi so I'm not sure but doesn't icsi take out the hard work for the sperm? It's directly put into the egg with the aim of fertilisation so I'm just thinking as long as they do their job once they're in there, maybe numbers aren't too much of an issue? x

Yeah it does all the hard work for you, but surely it's better if there's more there. And motility is low to xx

I'm sure there will be something they can do. My OHs count was normal but volume always averaged 0.5ml! Average is between 3/5 ml in volume. (Due to his spinal chord injury) but those little swimmers can still amaze you. X

My husband only has 0.5 mil/ml!! So don't get too disheartened! We're having ICSI, I go for my scan tomorrow to see if I'm ready for EC.

Has he tried some natural things to help increase it?

He's taking his multi vitamins wellman they Are, anything else he could do? How have you found out it so far? Needles look nothing, bit worried about egg collection as I'm having light sedition.. and nurse said I would feel some pain, I suppose could thing with icsi they do the job for you xx

My husband is on selenium, zinc, folic acid, Vit D and I can't remember the other one. He's also cut really down on alcohol, eating Brazil nuts, no caffine, wearing baggy bottoms when he gets in from work and eating healthily. He's been doing this for 5 months so we shall see if it's worked when he does his sample before EC!

I have found the needles surprisingly okay actually but I always put peas on my tummy first! I'm on short protocol. Do you know what you're going on?

Zinc, Selenium, L'Carnitine and L'arginine, these are the most important vitamins to concentrate on x

Thank you good luck to you to cxx

Hi del92

I have had 4 rounds of ICSI.

Dont worry about the 10 million count. With Icsi they pick out the very best of the sperm that is there. There will be some perfect sperm there for use.

You only need 1 sperm per egg so your hubby had plenty.

I would recommend he keeps up vitimins and no hot baths.

You will be grand, dont stress, thats wont hellp.

Wishing you both the best of luck.

Xx

I am so bad with numbers but 10 million sounds loads and as folk say icsi sorts out the best sperm so please try to be positive if you can although I know anything negative in this process always feels so so bad...hang in there xxxx

They didn't really go into what the problem was with my hubby's swimmers but said icsi was the only way.

I think they state + 90% fertilisation with icsi which I thought was inline with the natural way.

We had three mature eggs and they all fertilised with icsi so I wouldn't feel disheartened.

We were told at our clinic that a lower number than previous counts can often be traced back to an illness a few weeks before, when the sperm were first being formed. If that's the case then it should be a temporary dip in numbers.

And I agree with the others on here... they pick the best for icsi, so they'll pick ones which are wiggling around really happily, and they'll only need a few of all those millions.

Did they do more than one test-I know a lot of times one test result can vary quite a lot from the next with guys! I understood ICSI does the hard work so it's not such an issue.im sure they can advise on things to be done to improve count as well...diet, supplements etc so don't lose faith yet. Good luck xxx
