IVF and endometriosis/adenomyosis flare up

Hi all, I'm on my first cycle of ivf. Started on pergoveris and gonal f since day 2 of my cycle. I have been having the worst cramps of my life. Been taking 6 Tylenol just to calm the pain down daily. The pain travels to my anus and legs to the point i can't even sit. Is it normal?? Anyone experienced similar to me? Each time the pain strikes i feel like I'm gonna collapse. On the verge of breaking down. Its so hard to have a kid 😪

Hi there,

Sorry you're really going through a rough time 😔 I am actually only on Buserelin at the moment but my god the bumhole pain!!! Any endo sufferers who have experienced this will know exactly what we mean by lightening bum! I get with bad endo flare ups and don't get it all the time (thank god!) but yep, I'm not even on stims yet & worried about how bad it might get. I know exactly what you mean as I have passed out with the rectal endo pain a handful of times in the past 😢

Have you considered calling your nurses line at the clinic to ask if they can prescribe buscopan or similar? This is the only thing I've found helps slightly (pre IVF).

Bless you, I hope your symptoms shift asap xx

Hi dearie,

At the moment I can only take Tylenol as any other stronger medications like narcotics may affect ovulation and follicles growth. Its so mentally draining for me as the pain can drag for up to 6 hours daily. And I still have another one week of hormonal jabs before egg collection. Not sure how long I can handle it. Feel like breaking down.

Are u going to start on ivf too?

Buscopan isn't a narcotic, it's an antispasmodic medication. I'll definitely be asking my consultant if it's safe to use during treatment so if your pain is that bad I'd recommend asking your fertility clinic what you can use safely. Better that than feel so horrid without any other support 🙂

Yeah that's right, lovely I'm currently on an IVF cycle. Buserelin is an IVF medication & I'm starting stims next week.

Hope you're feeling better soon & wishing you loads of luck with your upcoming EC 🤞 xx

Hi boboveena. I wouldn't have thought those meds would be causing so much pain. I feel you need to speak with your GP for his/her opinion as to what is causing such pain. Hope it soon settles. Diane

Hi Boboveena - I did find the ivf hormones/meds exacerbated the lightning bum pain! My lower pelvis aches usually anyway, which I put down to endo/adeno - I have a coccyx support cushion that has helped me. Best of luck with your cycle and I hope the pain subsides! xx

Oh Boboveena, I can’t help with your question but I just wanted to say I feel your pain (quite literally!) and let you know you’re not alone. I too have endo and the pains up the bum are awful and so difficult to describe to anyone who hasn’t had it. They just don’t understand when I say it’s like someone has just shoved a giant knitting needle right up there! My symptoms thankfully didn’t get any worse with IVF meds, and I’d agree with the others about speaking to your clinic to see if they can give you anything else to ease the pain. Good luck x
