Twins due date....help!

I’m really worried I had my dating scan two weeks ago (at this point we were 15 weeks) and was told the twins had different delivery date that was a week and half apart. We have had private scans throughout trimester 1, as we were having fertility treatment and no one has said a thing. The scan and measurements looked fine. But when you look at the scan for the dating scan the measurements for this one doesn’t add up. I’m so confused and worried. Was meant to speak to a consultant yesterday and it’s been delayed by another week. Sooo really need to hear your stories

Congratulations on your twin news! That's amazing!

I have no twin experience, but with my singleton (currently 29 weeks) he has always measured totally off where he should be even on my viability scan, but because it's IVF my hospital won't change the due date as there is no mistake on fertility day (I've even got the picture!). I have however seen on here that some hospitals do adjust dates to reflect measurements even if it is IVF.

Defo ask your consultant, but in the mean time try not to worry. At my viability scan I think they measured him at 5 days more than he should be and that gap has got bigger ever since.

I've also heard from loads of mothers (non fertility treatment) who have said that the measurements are so off anyway. Big babies end up being small, small babies end up being massive etc.

If both of them were healthy and growing that's the important thing at this stage.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy. xxx

Thank you for coming back to me. Congratulations to you too. 29 weeks,How exciting...! I have been trying to hold onto the fact that the are both growing even on the dating scan, but I think having to wait another week to speak to the consultant has really thrown me today. I’m even contemplating going for a private scan, just to make sure they are both ok. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow x

We have erm paid a lot for private scans 😶 . This whole fertility thing makes you so nervous/paranoid. If it will ease your mind then you should. Much better than being worried for a week. All the private scan clinics can still operate in lockdown as long as you're going to check the health as your main priority rather than finding out the gender etc. If you do let us know how it goes. xxx

Ya, I think when you’ve been through fertility it makes you worry so much! Especially when you get so far....! We’ve had a number of private scans at the start, but was hoping once the NHS appointments started we would feel the reassurance. But have to say not impressed so far. Will keep you posted x

I’m pregnant with twins. One has measured much smaller the entire pregnancy by at least a week or more

At the 12 week dating scan my due date was brought forward by 5 days purely based on the size of the larger twin. That’s completely normal and hospital policy. So you won’t have 2 due dates - you due date will be that of the biggest baby.

Even with a Single baby it’s normal for them to change the due date based on measurements at the 12 week scan

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Thank you for replying. I guess I just hope they do the same for us. I just don’t understand how the scanner came up with these dates as they are measuring basically the same. And it’s nothing else serious. It’s just so frustrating that they don’t give you any details and expect you to wait for weeks to speak to a consultant xx

Congratulations!I didn't have twins, but my baby has always been very big, around the 99th percentile, so the due date at every scan was always calculated backwards (even though the official one is defined at the 12 week scan). Even at my 15 week scan my due date was calculated backwards by 8 days - my baby girl was born slightly short of 10 stones 6 days ahead of due date, and the due date was already 4 days backwards compared to the date calculated against the transfer day.

When did you have your transfer? Which due dates are now estimated after the scan?

We had transfer in October. They have given us two due dates for our twins which are a week and half apart. I have to wait to speak to our consultant to find out more
