I had my first ever embryo transferred today. They had difficulty getting the cathater all the way in because of the angle my cervix was sitting at. (despite a very full bladder).
The Dr had to take over from nurse and he did a painful procedure on me which eventually worked and i hope to God the wee embryo is getting cozy.
I shouldn't read up about it but i cant help it. Studies show difficult transfers are correlated with failed cycles. The Dr said there's a 50% chance it will work but if it doesn't, i need to have a hysteroscopy (at another hospital costing about £3k) to stretch my cervix.
Hoping someone can reassure me and until then, I'll keep hoping for the best.

I had a similar experience with my first fresh embryo transfer. The procedure took 45 mins which a long time for transfer an embryo. Seems that the regular speculum was short for me then they used a longer one and it works. The Dr said that doesn't affect the percentage of success. But unfortunately I had a faild cycle. And tomorrow is my second transfer but this time a frozen embryo.
Yeah mine was ages too. The clinical staff were all getting a sweat one trying to figure out what to do. Sorry to hear yours didn't work out but wish you all the luck for tomorrow. My transfer was a frozen one. People keep telling me the success rate is equal if not slightly better to fresh. 🤞🤞🤞
I did my FET today. Unfortunately I face same difficulty with getting the catheter to the right spot in my room . The most hard part is the full bladder that made me so stressed :(After that another doctor came and magically he succeeded to reach my room directly. And my little nice embryo has been transferred. Finger crossed 🤞
I havenr experienced the same but what I can say my last 5 transfers were perfect went exactly how they should and they all failed. I believe if its meant to be it will regardless of how it came to be. The first day after a transfer should be a happy positive day. You have a 50 percent chance which to me is good odds!!!! Try not to think about it, its not going to change the outcome how you think now. My one and only successful transfer ( now an 8 year old boy) was when I relaxed drank pineapple juice and peppermint tea and didnt stess. Fingers crossed for hun and right now you have hope! Xxxxxxx
Thank you. Yeah i didn't think about the possibility of failure even it it was an easy transfer. It really is just luck isn't it?
Fortunately I'm not working so can rest and relax as much as I can. Eating all the good things.
I think the last we spoke you were having a polyp removed. Hope it went ok. At least if i have to have the afore mentioned procedure, i can have my polyp removed at the same time! Xx
How you feeling today? Yes I had the polyp removed early December but not received the biopsy results yet so can't proceed with my FET without them Xxxx

I'm so sorry! Your post touched me because I remember how I felt after my horrible FET transfer in Nov.
They made me drink so much water... Took for ages and then they decided to use a different catheter (a rigid one). My heart drop.
Apparently the catheter couldn't go through because of a very difficult angle. Never happened before and I also had a mock a month before! This was my 3rd transfer
I was tired, anxious and so deflated
Then when I came home i spent the entire afternoon and evening reading about "difficult"transfer and chances of implantation
Some studies say there is an impact other say no impact as long as the embryo is never found on the catheter, or as long as the catheter used in flexible ( mine was rigid) or as long as it's not classified as a difficult transfer ( blood, pain, other ways to insert it etc.) . The skills of the person was basically the most crucial factor.
Anyway I'm 11weeks pregnant now!!

Hi ashbb, I'm very sorry to hear you had such a difficult transfer. Poor you! So long as the embryo is in, you have every chance of this transfer succeeding. Keeping everything crossed for you!
I have had two transfers to date, both of which were sedated. Might be something to bear in mind if you do end up doing another transfer? It costs me an extra £300 but I figured it is worth it. I had a very difficult smear test a couple of years back which resulted in me seeing 4 different doctors and nurses as no one could find my cervix. I found this quite painful and it traumatised me into believing I wouldn't be able to get through the embryo transfer without encountering a problem. Thanks to the sedation, I don't feel a thing and the process is over very quickly.
I've also had some experience of difficult transfers. Mainly my experience is not a good comparison for yours as I'm quite old so my success rates are affected by that. I just mean don't be discouraged by my lack of success so far, it sounds like you have every chance of a good outcome!
I did want to say that if you were to have further difficult transfers (and let's hope you don't need any more transfers!) it might be worth asking your Dr whether you could have a bicornuate uterus or similar. I've had 5 difficult transfers and it was only after the most recent one (also the most difficult and painful) that they realised/told me I have a bicornuate uterus, which I think is basically a funny (heart) shaped uterus. I wish they'd thought about this earlier and it might have saved me quite a bit of discomfort and perhaps helped things to go smoother.
Also my most difficult transfer (my most recent one) is the one that resulted in a pregnancy (although sadly it turned out to be a chemical, it implanted, which to me is the bit that relates to the quality of the transfer. The pregnancy probably ended due to age related genetic defects, although I can't know for sure).
The most recent transfer left me feeling really unsettled and quite tearful (afterwards, in front of the Dr's I pretended I was fine 🙄), I do hope you're doing OK hun.

We've had difficult transfers on two out of four tramsfer and both resulted in pregnancy (mmc and then chemical but likely to do with embryo rather than anything related to the transfer!).
Know easier said than done but try not to worry and your embryo is now safely back where it belongs
Thank you. My blood test yesterday came back with a very strong positive. The embryo was A grade and remained A grade after thaw. Let's hope it chooses to get comfy in there. Over the moon but so shocked as i was feeling so negative. 3 more weeks till the first scan. 🤞 X
Hey! I could have written this myself. I’ve had 3 transfers and all have been difficult with drs taking over 2 out of 3 times. The first 2 times resulted in a failure and a chemical. Then the dr who took over on my third transfer (miracle worker as I now think of him) did a great job as both of my 2 embryos implanted and I’m now 17.5 weeks with twins. One thing the last dr did was also write in my notes and told me that for any future transfers the best way to get the catheter in (wrote down the side to aim for angle etc.) which I thought was great of him.

It's a POSITIVE!!! Thank you for your comment. I read at the time and it reassured me but had to take a wee break from here to focus. I'm over the moon but absolutely shocked. Zero symptoms at all. Was preparing for a negative. 3 weeks till first scan. Xx
Hi, I experienced a very similar thing and I too googled so much after also! My cycle was successful but ended in early miscarriage unfortunately, which they think was due to progesterone levels. I will soon be having another FET and the doctor said the pain could have been due to a full bladder altering the positioning. Apparently this effects some people..?! I really don’t believe it will make your transfer any less successful. Sending lots of positive thoughts for BFP x
Hello! Oh I’m so sorry you’ve had a difficult transfer 😢. IVF is not the most pleasant of procedures so having a difficult transfer is the last thing you need.
There is every chance you will be successful regardless of transfer so please keep positive!
I have had 3 tricky transfers (my cervix is tilted but this was only picked up on the last transfer). After a few investigations (I paid for these privately but it’s been a huge head ache financially) I have been told I need an hysteroscopy to widen my cervix. All of my embryos have been good but the transfers haven’t been.
I have spoken to ladies who have been successful with nightmare transfers so keep positive and look after yourself xx
Thank you so much for your reply. I was told I needed to have the same procedure as you if it didn't work. I've been taking a break from online stuff and looking after myself. I got a BFP yesterday!! So shocked as zero symptoms but apparently its a very strong result. Let's hope they choose to stay a wee while. 💞🤞
Hi hun,The same happened to me, but it was a successful cycle. It was 2 embryos in the catheter and 1 stuck. Now I'm 12 weeks along.
It's a BFP!!! Hoping they stay a good while longer. Got my first scan in a few weeks. Thank you for reassuring me at the time. I read it but needed a wee break from driving myself nuts.Now I'm in shock! 💞
