I had my follow up consultation yesterday after a failed double transfer a few weeks ago. They think it’s chromosome issues as I’m 42 with 4 natural miscarriages.
But have had two failed fresh transfers (3 embryos) over 2 icsi cycles now so they suggested a endometrial scratch before the next transfer in January. This will be my first frozen transfer and my last embryo in storage.
What’s the endo scratch like? Does it hurt?
They said to take paracetamol but I’m wondering whether to take something stronger, I have codeine?
I’m hoping it helps for the last embryo we have left but for the double transfer I had embryoglue and that didn’t seem to work....

Hi I’ve had a couple of scratches and to be truthful it’s a bit uncomfortable, i was told it was a bit like a smear, but guessed it wasn’t when they handed me gas and air 🙈 I took some paracetamol about 45mins before I went in and along with the gas and air it was fine and it’s over quite quick. Good luck hope it all goes well! X
Sadly not but after 4 failed cycles I managed to fall pregnant twice this year but miscarried in June and currently having problems with bleeding this time due to a hematoma but I’ve never managed to fall pregnant so who knows what’s changed. You will be fine tomorrow, like daffodils1 said, it’s not as bad as egg collection. They never mentioned the gas and air to me either but it was there so fingers crossed it is for you too. Let me know how you get on! X
Sorry to hear about your miscarriage in June. This journey is so hard. I didn’t find egg collection painful, due to anaesthetic and then after it was fine too 🤔. I only got 4 eggs though due to my age so maybe that’s why with low amount of eggs.

It was horrible 😑. No gas and air and i asked as soon as i walked through the door 🤣
You were right though it doesn't last long and i just held on to the chair for dear life and did heavy breathing haha. I've had some fleshy blood loss since but they said to expect some spotting etc.
I know I was livid about the gas & air! 😂. Yes fingers crossed for the January transfer. Did you take any particular supplements for a frozen transfer? I've only ever had fresh transfers so unsure what supplements are best and how to prep.
I had the endo scratch, it was a little bit uncomfortable but was fine. I took some paracetamol after. Compared to the pain after egg collection it’s nothing. Don’t worry and fingers crossed it brings you success.
Sorry to here that re fertilisation rate. I am already jaded after 2 failed Icsi cycles. They said it’s age related egg quality/chromosome problems and likely not implantation as I’ve been pregnant 4 times naturally. I wondered why the endo scratch then if not an implantation issue. I guess they’re just trying anything at this point just in case 🤔
It's just a little bit unpleasant. Feels like a really strong period cramp but it lasted a second. I took a couple of paracetamol. Was in and out in 5 mins xx
Hi Fay, no I haven't. Is that the same as PGS testing of the embryos? I was going to but didn't get enough embryos to make it worth it so we just decided to transfer and see. Have you had pgs?
The scratch was ok, painful but only for a minute or so and its over. Apparently it works by causing a response to an injury:-
"Research suggests that the injury response following endometrial scratch increases growth factors at the site making the endometrium more receptive to embryo implantation. In other words, the procedure is thought to make it easier for your embryo to attach to the womb lining and make your chances of pregnancy better."
I only have 3 embryos... stressing a lot to get the tests .. probably next week. I wish I didn’t test the best quality so I would left myself some hope for transfer 🥺I ask my specialist if there was a chance to get to transfer 🤞 all the best for u xxx
I haven't experienced this as i decided not to do pgs quite last minute and my clinic agreed to give me a refund. Mainly due to only getting 3/4 embryos in my cycles and i was reading some things about pgs which put me off. So we opted for transfer and see but this has its cons.
would you transfer if any embryos tested came back abnormal? I have 3 untested, One is BB , the others are poor...But considering my history with abnormal embryos is hard decision for me to think about transfer. Dont know what to do and donor eggs are very expernsive in australia, 6 eggs for $30000!! if it was 12 eggs I felt better but 6 eggs is very risky!! is also illegal to pay someone here for eggs which made life so painful! I think laws in australia are very unfair...you cannot pay surrogate as well.I also dont know how to find overseas clinic that ship eggs to Sydney..since you pay for eggs its critical to find reliable clinic which is not dodgy
Hi, in the UK they won't transfer abnormals at all so it is not an option. If I lived somewhere that allowed it, I'm not sure, I'd have to do a lot of research and ask what kind of abnormal is it. I'd say with no info, no i probably would not as it risks a miscarriage or hard decisions later on.
I'd transfer the untested embryos first if you have 3. There will be some normal eggs presumably. I am in the same situation as you with high proportion of abnormals due to age of 42.
I don't know much about donors at this stage so can't help there.
