7 week scan after FET...internal or abdominal?

Hi just wondering if anyone has had an abdominal scan rather than an internal scan when 7 weeks pregnant? I’ve had a FET and got a positive test result. I am booked in for a 7 week scan in a couple of weeks but have been told it will be an internal scan rather then over the tummy.

Due to having a couple of miscarriages after internal scans i now don’t feel confident about having them done even though i know the internal scan and miscarriages are probably not linked.

Any advice about abdominal scans at 7 week will be appreciated.

Thanks

My early scans were internal, with my first abdominal at 10 weeks. I think that early, it is generally too small to get a good look abdominally, especially for those who have a retroverted uterus (which I do). You can always ask, but if they can’t get a good look they will probably want to do internal. At that early stage, they’re so small that I personally would rather have a better look and clearer measurements and views of the key main structures, than potentially have more uncertainty with an abdominal. Good luck xx

Hi I had a private scan at 7 weeks, it was on tummy they wouldn't do internal as they weren't medical etc just private scanning place. I still got to see tiny nugget and heartbeat but picture obviously wasn't very clear xxx

There is absolutely no risk to your baby having an internal one at any stage of your pregnancy, so if they are offering internal I would go with that as others have said it might not be very clear on your abdomen (and if they can’t see what they need to you might have to go internal anyway!) but I do understand why you might be hesitant given the timings of your previous miscarriages :-( x

My scan at 7wks was on my tummy. They did warn me that if there was anything they couldnt see that they would have to do an internal one.xx

Hey lovely, I had an internal. Unfortunately it was a blighted ovum and so I was sent to EPU. At the EPU they used external and could see what they needed to. Best of luck with it lovely. I can imagine it’s super nerve wracking after a loss. Big love xxx

I had an internal at both 6 weeks (as i had some spotting) and then the 8 week scan. Im now 13 weeks and all going well. I know its hard ehen you are worrying about miscarriage but husband kept reminding me there is 0 chance they would offer this if there was a risk. X

Hi hun, at my clinic my first 7 week scan was internal, however i did book a private one just before this by a couple of days and they only do abdominal in the private scanning clinics, so i i think you have to be minimum 6.5 to 7 weeks along they told me in order to bring anything up. Luckily they scanned me and baby was there and all was well. So i think internal gives a clearer picture earlier on as they have to press fairly hard and with baby so so small at that gestation i think internal overall is better, but abdominal can be done from 7 weeks xx
